OLD STORY? THEY’RE ALL OLD STORIES THE OLDER YOU GET

An old story wears thin over time? Not when it’s your story, no matter how many times you tell it. When you hear, “I’ve heard this so many times,” don’t take it as criticism. That’s just someone bragging about their listening skills, not trashing your repetitiveness. Still, why not add something new?

THE GENERALIST REVENGE

The generalist revenge starts with dumping the cookie cutter. Not everyone is the same, not matter how convenient that might be. Take changing of the guard in England. They all look alike, but that’s it. Under those red coats, they are all different.

FITNESS WORK STARTS WITH . . .

Fitness work starts with a glancing look in a mirror, a reflection in a window. Or your wife asking, “What happened?” However, if you’re not married, no problem. There are still plenty of body shaming opinions shared quietly. Just not with you.

FAT SHAMER OVEREATS ON FAVORITE HOLIDAY, AGAIN

Fat shaming, while not new, took a new turn. A concerned partner wrote for advice on a relationship with someone gaining weight. Have you written for relationship advice? Ever? And expected a response? Me neither, but this is amazing:

GIVING UP AT THE RIGHT TIME

Giving up is the same as quitting? Or something more insidious? Quitting feels so final, like, “All done here.” Giving up delivers a different message.

BODY WEIGHT: A FAT MAN’S CONFESSION WITH NO SHAME

Body weight became an issue for me in 7th grade. And it wasn’t fat shaming. That came later. In seventh grade there was a football weight limit for playing in the backfield. One twenty if I remember right. What I remember very accurately is I weighed slightly more, like five pounds. Coach Peasley, a small […]

SELF CARE, THE RIGHT TOOLS FOR THE JOB

Self care showed up in more places during the covid lockdown, and even more with reopening unfolding across the country. Most advice serves to create calm in the chaos, instead of just cutting and chopping willy-nilly. A smaller voice says, “Have another beer and see how that works,” but let’s look at psychology today instead.
