MARATHON FAMILY MATTERS

This is my marathon family. We all lived in Seaside at the time. I couldn’t tell you any of their names because I don’t know them. But they’re still family, temporary family.

Running at the No Kings march? No, but . . . Things change slowly that feel like warp speed looking back. One day you’re a marathoner in Seaside cruising down the road. Feeling good, looking good, before hitting the wall. Then it’s all about recovering and finishing big. On the sandy beach. Ugh.

PERFORMANCE PRESSURE SELF INFLICTED

Performance pressure starts with doubt. Will you be good enough? Have you trained to win? Can you do it? These are the same questions asked when people decide to get married.

GIVING UP AT THE RIGHT TIME

Giving up is the same as quitting? Or something more insidious? Quitting feels so final, like, “All done here.” Giving up delivers a different message.
