Cancer treatment. Are there two more frightening words in any vocabulary? If you have any friends or family in it, you know. But, if it’s never touched up anyone you know, they are only words. Just words in passing.

PERFECT TIMING: THE GOOD AND THE BAD

Perfect timing:The longer you work at something, the better you get. At least that’s the idea, the story, and it’s true. Sometimes. It’s not true when you don’t learn how do something the right way from the beginning. Take a playing guitar for instance:

SUN SCREEN? “BUT IT’S SO MESSY.” SO IS SKIN CANCER

Do you think sun screen is messy? Too runny, too pasty, too this, too that. Besides, you life in a rain shadow under cloudy skies. What do you need sun screen for?

STOMP OUT CANCER FROM THE KICK OFF

Stomp out cancer was the theme for the Oregon Ducks v Michigan State football game at Autzen stadium. It was a fitting theme in my family where cancer is no stranger. Maybe your family, too, but I hope not. Here’s what it looks like and sounds like:

BREAKING STRIDE, LOSING MOMENTUM, PICKING IT UP

Breaking stride matters when you’re the lead horse in a harness race. Do that and you’re disqualified. What happens when you breakdown in your regular day to day life? Who notices that? You. Or you should, since everyone else does.

MUNDANE LIFE? CONGRATULATIONS

Fear the mundane life, or celebrate the accomplishment? The more the pace of life speeds up, and you don’t, the more your effort shines. Who knew normal and ordinary could feel so good? But there’s a problem. Not everyone gets it.

Recovery road is paved with promise and hope. Most of all, it’s paved with compasses to stay on track. Whether recovery involves substance or emotions, staying on track is vital. How does that work?
