AN ELVIS ROOM? THERE’S ALWAYS ROOM FOR ELVIS

I’ve spent more time in museums than any other institutions, and the idea of an Elvis room outside of Graceland seemed unlikely. And? I was wrong. “Would you like to see the Elvis Room?” What’s the right answer? For me it was another question. “You’ve got an Elvis Room?”

WE DON’T NEED NO EDUCATION, (FOR ANOTHER BRICK IN THE WALL)

From twitterX:   I get yelled at for saying this but for many hundreds of years people went to university not to get diplomas or be employable but because immersion in the humanities was considered foundational to a good life, and school must return to its original purpose: the joy of learning.   Doesn’t that […]

OLD WORDS FIND NEW MEANING

Old words and images find new meaning in our quick paced modern world, but a naked kid stomping the head of his vanquished foe Goliath always carries the same message: Go, David, Go. He’s the unlikely underdog facing insurmountable odds and coming through. (You can do it.) Did young Dave need to kick the ball […]

You settle back after you close the books on your taxes paid and that new life waiting just around the corner. Those taxes are the money paid to live the American Dream. Who among us thinks of taxes paid every time we get jolted driving over another gaping pothole? “Why do I bother when they […]

DINGO FAMILY NEWS

I’ve got a dingo family living in my house, but it’s okay since I’m Baby Dingo. Why am I Baby Dingo? Because Daddy Dingo said so. Daddy Dingo is a five year old. I didn’t ask how they worked it out. Momma Dingo is my dog. We’re all happy. Happy daddy, happy momma, happy baby.

HISTORY BUSINESS MINDS THE STORE

History business is a museum, a class, an artifact. It’s all of that and more: it’s you, me, and the guy down the road. If you ask someone about it, you might hear something like, “I learned history in school.” There are other responses to the question, “What does history mean to you?”

SITTING DOWN AND SHUTTING UP? OK BOOMER

As we’ve seen over the years, sitting down and shutting up is not a baby boomer characteristic. Never has been. No one has ever called us the Silent Generation, the Quiet Generation, or the Compliant Generation. We’ve been called a lot of things, just not those.
