NATURE SIGNS TO WATCH FOR

When you make a plan to see nature up close, expect nature signs.

Follow the message of the signs for best results.

Do that and you’ll return home with sweet memories and solid experiences with exciting pictures to share.

If it’s your first time out in the wild, pay extra attention.

You can thank me later. Or now. This nature sign was in the cabin:

 

 

Keep wildlife wild? It’s always a good idea.

The woods are not the same as a zoo.

For starters, there’s no cage between you and what may see you as dinner.

 

 

You might see nature signs when you cook, but the top image is from a cabin and I think ‘wildlife’ was mice.

Is a wild mouse more dangerous than a suburban mouse?

It depends on the chair you jump up on.

 

Our Buffalo 

You don’t need a trip to Yellowstone to be aware of dangerous animals.

Every year we see some tourist decide to pet the friendly buffalo.

The only problem is the friendly part.

Are the bees friendlier?

 

 

I’ll say no, yellow jackets are not friendlier than elk.

The nature signs in parks are not decorations when an elk can run forty miles an hour and jump eight feet.

If you’re faster and can jump higher? Stay away from the king of the forest.

 

Then There’s This Safety Sign

Has anyone made this mistake?

Has anyone seen this mistake being made?

Maybe someone saw a mouse and jumped on the first chair they found?

Maybe they saw an elk, or a bear, or a yellow jacket, and this was their response?

My guess? This sign is for people from other countries who don’t have the same sort of plumbing found here.

Something had to have happened, and a ranger figured it out.

 

PS:

When an outdoorsman and a naturalist make an observation on the wild, and the wildlife present, I’m listening.

One rule of thumb is holding your hand up in front of you. If a wild animal is hidden behind your thumb you are a safe distance away.

My rule is to keep a car between you and the critters, with you in the car.

 

 

PSS:

When a park ranger explains nature signs, they’re doing it from education, experience, and research.

When a money man with an itch to clear land and develop their next project sees nature signs, it’s a speed bump to them.

If they know a guy who can give them a green light it’s all good.

Animals? To them a known nuisance.

Old growth timber? Take it down.

Ancestral land? Not their ancestors, so who cares.

A soft old man who enjoys telling others what to do while being served by a staff of minions who show no regard for the natural world, is showing his ignorance.

Those who carry out his poor judgement are no better.

A kid with dreams fueled by the mountains and forests need more than pictures and video of the outdoors.

A tired old man could care less.

If you want some rejuvenation and renewal, no matter your age, a walk in the woods will do it.

So will a walk along a river.

Take your pick and get out there.

Keep an eye out for wild animals.
