MUSIC LESSON AT GUITAR CENTER

A music lesson with the usual suspects? Nooooo. With an array like this, from first guitar to last, there’s only one thing to do: Guitar lesson. Which means go looking for another guitar at Guitar Center. So I did, and much to my surprise I found someone else doing the same thing. Well, almost the […]

POLITICAL HISTORY = HISTORY

When you consider historical facts, when you read history, you’re reading political history. With any luck, what you read is put together by someone who has read and understands the role of politics. What is that role? Creating a just and vibrant society for the greatest number of people. But that’s just my opinion.

WHAT I WANT AND WHAT I GET

Did I want a big fluffy dog? Noooo. But here we are and she’s the best darn dog I’ve ever known, heard of, or seen. Better than Bullet and Rin Tin Tin? Waaaaay better. She’s my dog, and just what I want. But I didn’t know that before hand.

WHAT PEOPLE WANT AND WHAT THEY GET

What people want is ‘better.’ ‘Better what’ is the big question, and while we ponder that, we get what we can tolerate. After time passes, we grow intolerant, and want something better. In America, that can be a problem. Here’s why:

TRAFFIC SEARCH: FIND WHAT FINDS YOU

Traffic search is the opposite of a normal search. For your search, you type in a question. My search asks ‘Where is my traffic coming from.’ I have my hunches, my suspicions, my hopes.

SELF DEFENSE WITH THE PROPER MOVES

Self defense? I’ve never taken a class, but I encourage anyone to do it. Learn how to find a solution to a difficult problem. How much is too much? How far is too far? Where to start? In my mid to late teens I was a small town high school wrestler.

HOW COLLEGE FOOTBALL MATTERS

UNDEREDUCATED, OVEREDUCATED, OR JUST RIGHT

Growing up, everyone is undereducated. From five, to fifteen, to twenty-five, the learning curve is steep. After high school, you’re done? Noooo. After a bachelor’s degree, your done? Nooooo After a professional degree, or graduate degree, you’re done? After all the learning, no matter how far you get, or how long it takes, we come […]

LISTENING PRACTICE: START SOONER THAN LATER

Listening practice with Ernest Hemingway: “We learn to talk by two, we learn to listen by sixty.” That he was dead at sixty-one says something about his listening skills? Nooooooo.

HARD RAIN FALLING, GUTTERS OVERFLOWING, NOW WHAT?

I’ve got a hard rain falling in drops you can see. Not the usual drizzle, not a sheet of water, but individual drops spaced and timed to perfection. It’s cold out, the kind of day that makes you think of other places you’ve heard about, seen on advertisements, the kind of cold and wet people […]
