FAMILY PETS NURTURE LONG MARRIED COUPLES

“Family pets are for kids to learn about caring for animals.” That makes sense to me. Feed the fish, walk the dog, pet the cat. Then everyone grows up and moves on. That’s when I had ‘the conversation’ about a new dog.

TOP DOG? OR LAST DOG

Every dog I’ve had in my married life has been the top dog, starting with Lucky. We were talking about it when the kids were small. One of my wife’s friends heard about the talking and called to say she had one for us. The perfect dog.

CHANGING TIMES, LIKE LAST TIME

If family time is a priority for you why not mix it up? Instead of the same ol’ same ol’,  do new things. Like what? Like sharing time, unplanned time. For example:

Extra dog time happens after you’ve had your last dog? Or your first dog? You could call any time spent with dogs extra time because they do something to the minutes and hours. I think it has something to do with 7 to 1 year ration, that a dog ages seven years to our one. […]

Nurturing years change over time. From the duties of planting and raising nasturtiums in third grade, to raising kids in your thirties, the stakes rise. Then everyone grows up and no longer need nurturing? No, that’s not how it works.
