WHITE LOTUS BEACH CAMP: LIFE IMITATES ART

My wife and I found White Lotus this week, which is about right for us. This time we’re only five years behind. The family scenes make me laugh, not so much her, but one struck me hard: The kid sleeps on the beach at low tide  in the first season. What was so funny? The […]

SNOW DAYS OR SNOW DAZE

Snow days wrapped up on Saturday. Out of the rental house by 10:30. It was a week without writing anything. Just posting greatest hits of the blog, which is a good reminder to write more. It’s good to be back, but good to be off a while, too.

EXQUISITE CREATURES, OR JUST MY FAMILY

Exquisite Creatures is in the final days of its second run at OMSI. Christopher Marley’s nature collection occupies two floors. In one word, it’s an incredible experience made more so by who I saw it with: Wife, kid, daughter in-law, and a four year old. But not just any four year old, which I’ll get […]

ACCEPTABLE LOSSES WITH EXCEPTIONS

Acceptable losses come with a line. Whether losses are acceptable or not usually depends on which side of the line you’re on. If friends and family are on one side, and you’re not? Either they’re on the loss side, or it’s you. Then what? Since I’ve been around a while, here’s a few ideas:

MORE ‘WANT TO?’ BUT WHERE IS IT

‘Want to’ is what you need starting out. More ‘want to’ is what it takes to keep going. Some folks use it all in the start-up phase, others in the keep going phase. Then there’s the closer who never runs out.

THE LONG ROAD OF FAMILY LIFE

The long road of family life in the good old days started with moms and dads in the lead. Whether they loved each other like soul mates, or hated each other like oceans do shorelines, they stayed married. I’m not looking at statistical data when I say they stayed married, it’s just that I don’t […]

YOUR BOOK TO WRITE, YOUR STORY TO TELL

Your book means just that; it’s your book to write. If you have a story to tell and share, write your book. The secret to finishing a book? Start writing it. Another secret? Everyone has a book in them. At least one. A BoomerPdx reader sent this message:

GROWING UP AND STAYING SHARP

Growing up is a decision. It’s a decision to be on time, show up ready to go, and inspire others by your example. Like writing a blog, lol. The biggest decision to make? Decide to stay sharp, in spite of having sons.
