HARD RAIN FALLING, GUTTERS OVERFLOWING, NOW WHAT?

I’ve got a hard rain falling in drops you can see. Not the usual drizzle, not a sheet of water, but individual drops spaced and timed to perfection. It’s cold out, the kind of day that makes you think of other places you’ve heard about, seen on advertisements, the kind of cold and wet people […]

2025 HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEAR, SO FAR

2025 highlights have come every day, with each new one besting the last. And, like last year, 2024, it’s come to this. The End. Also like last year, and the years before, tomorrow is a: New Beginning. Let’s say it together. New. Beginning.

COLLEGE DIPLOMA, JUST ANOTHER PIECE OF PAPER?

Every time I open the sleeve and look at my college diploma it takes me back to another time. What time is that? The mid-70’s? Nooooo. Early 80’s? Noooo. But I started freshman year in 1973.

ADULTHOOD MISUNDERSTOOD, AND THEN … ?

You’d think adulthood misunderstood would come from some kid with ideas on who they’d want to be. But, noooooo. It’s the adults. If it were a kid, they’d have time to figure things out after a misunderstanding. What if it’s a baby boomer? What’s their excuse?

MELANCHOLY NOSTALGIA? WHERE DO I SIGN

Melancholy nostalgia is no one’s idea of a good time. Nostalgia alone is more than enough. Those ‘good old days’ never looked better until you start scratching around. Add a dose of melancholy to clear things up.

MARATHON MINDSET OFF THE TRACK

I hear marathon mindset and the number 332 pops up. Three hours and thirty-two minutes, the longest 3:32 I can remember. Soooo long it felt never ending, but it all worked out after twenty-six miles. If things don’t work out, then it’s not the end, which is often a problem.

LEARNING CURVE NEVER ENDS

A learning curve shows where you start and where you finish. You learn what you don’t know, then how to apply it. From newbie to seasoned pro, eventually. We used to learn new things from the news, from newspapers to news shows to breaking news. Journalists used to spoon-feed us the most important stories.

HYPE MAN FOR BOOMERPDX

If my blog had a hype man it would sound like this: DON’T WASTE ANOTHER SECOND BEFORE SIGNING UP TO RECEIVE UPDATES FROM BOOMERPDX. No bonus, no gift, just an update on a thriving blog community. Boomers are big on not wasting time since our days are numbered with death at our doorstep. But why […]
