DANGEROUS COMBINATIONS TO BE WARY OF

Dangerous  combinations  come in every variety in all walks of life. In baseball it’s a fastball followed by an off-speed pitch for a third strike. For boxing it’s a left jab followed by a right cross for a knockout. In football it’s a running play followed by a pass. But, what about the non-sporty stuff? […]

MUSEUM LIBRARY, LIBRARY MUSEUM

A museum library is a two for one deal. Go to the museum, check out the library. Someone always gets a surprise. What’s the surprise?

WHY WRITING IS BETTER THAN THE REST

Why writing? That’s the question. Why not paining, sculpting, singing, playing an instrument, and any other creative outlet? Writing is simple, like running. One takes a pen and paper, a phone, a tablet, lap top, or anything else that contains and conveys words, and lays them down. For running it’s a pair of shoes. If […]

SWITCHING UP FROM ONE SIDE TO THE OTHER

Switching up with anything is every man’s dream. Unless you’re thinking of suburban guy. He’s not changing anything. That’s the lifestyle of the American Dream. A house, a yard, neighbors, kids, mail comes on time, good library, a job that makes it all affordable. And there’s more:

CONTINUING EDUCATION? CLASS IN SESSION

Continuing eduction needs one thing: the continuing part, the part outside formal classrooms and proctored exams. Why? Because that’s where a good education starts working. For example:

EXTRA EFFORT, BUT HOW MUCH?

Extra effort is the rule, or so we hear. “If you want to be somebody, it will take more than you’re doing.” “If you want to succeed, work harder.” But some people are born lucky. Clint asks, “Do you feel lucky? Do you, punk?”

BUSINESS BLOGGER vs BOOMERPDX

The business blogger has a root goal: make enough money to keep the doors open. They have a product, affiliated products, a service, and a sales pitch. The blog includes plug-ins up the whazoo to show pop-ups reminding you to sign up for a newsletter, get updates, or donate. They may be entrepreneurs, or part […]

DO RIGHT, BUT NOT RIGHT NOW?

I’m a ‘do right’ kind of person. That’s my big contribution. So far, so good. If there’s a clear choice to make between one thing or the other, make the right choice. “But, Blogger Dave, what about the gray area when no one is looking?”

TWO STORIES AND ONLY TWO?

Two stories in 5000 years are not a lot of stories. Is that for slow readers too? Or do speed readers change the numbers? I have the feeling Mr. Eco is repeating the writer’s mantra: Buy More Books. Sounds good to me, but why not check in with other writers.

OLD STORY? THEY’RE ALL OLD STORIES THE OLDER YOU GET

An old story wears thin over time? Not when it’s your story, no matter how many times you tell it. When you hear, “I’ve heard this so many times,” don’t take it as criticism. That’s just someone bragging about their listening skills, not trashing your repetitiveness. Still, why not add something new?
