COLD WET OREGON WITH EXTRA WATER

On a cold wet Oregon day the beach was covered as far as the eye could see, and since it’s flat you can see a long way.
Jelly fish, man of war, or whatever it was, it was a mass die-off of squishy critters up and down the beach, a purple carpet of goo to walk around.
Otherwise known as an Oregon day at the beach.
You might see a whale wash up, a ship wreck, or this: Oregon Coast Aquarium.
My first thought walking in the front door was food.

After lunch:

I wasn’t the only one.
This was before I heard how much an otter eats every day.
If I had to eat a quarter of my body weight every day I’d need a whale to pick clean.
Or a permanent chair at Gino’s.
The longer I stayed in the aquarium on a cold wet Oregon day the more the topic of water came up.

I like the pep-talk feel of the plaques with their thanks to the sea, and they have good science.
If ‘Thanks be to the sea’ sounds a little churchy, a little preachy, it fits here.
It’s got a cathedral feel to it.
An underwater temple.

The Best Part Of Cold Wet Oregon Days? Sharing Them

You know you’re in Oregon when you find yourself in a group on a cold wet day looking at creatures who enjoy cold, wet, days.
With them it’s not so cold, not so wet.
When you’re a baby boomer blogger from Portland’s far south mailing area, on the road with millennials and their kids, it’s never as cold and wet as the forecast.
Like the Oregon coast of wonders, there’s always something happening.

PS:

When you hear old people talking about the ‘good old days’, listen in for clues.
If days like these don’t turn into the good old days, what will?

PSS:

I remember way back in the spring of 2026 when man of war covered the beaches, we saw sharks, and had a rock fish for lunch.
Yeah, those were the days.
Then remind yourself where you are and who you’re with. Are you making memories for the good old days?
If not, there’s still work to do.
Let’s go.
