KNIGHT CANCER INSTITUTE: SECOND OPINION ON SECOND OPINIONS

The Knight Cancer Institute has been on my mind since its inception. Why would a sports company founder devote huge resources to starting a cancer institute? It wasn’t a one time donation. Yesterday the Institute pulled in another $2 billion. It’s a big story built on little stories like this:

MARRIED WEED COUPLE LOSING GRIP

What happens when a weed couple changes their stance? When one of them decides to light up and the other doesn’t? If they are baby boomers, you’d expect them to do something baby boomer-ish, like write a letter to Dear Abby? No way. They’d sit down, after fifty years of marriage, and figure it out. […]

MY PEOPLE, YOUR PEOPLE, OUR PEOPLE

My people are good listeners, up to a point. Requesting something five time in a minute is close to that point. “Please do this. Have you done it. It’s all set up for you. Get started. You’d be done if you’s started sooner.” We also have patience. What about your people?

START THE HARDEST PART FIRST: BEER CULTURE

Doing the hardest part of anything is not the opposite of doing the easy part. The easy part serves as a warm-up? Sometimes. But, do that and you might be too tired for the next part, which is also not the hardest. Like what? Take drinking beer for example. I live in a beer town, […]

THE EASY WAY, OR THATAWAY

The idea of the ‘easy way’ is a problem. To those who know how to do everything, it’s all easy. For them, not you. Anyone else who tries doing what they do would screw up. For example:

A CERTAIN AGE, THEN POOF. THAT’S IT?

“As a culture, we tend to let people disappear at a certain age,” said Dustin Hoffman. What’s that feeling you get when you hear someone start with, “As a culture . . . ?” They’re talking about something you ought to know, or it’s something you don’t know and feel suspicious about. I side with […]

NEW NUMBERS NEEDED HERE

I need new numbers, not that I’m too good for 0-9. A new arrangement would be nice, but it is what it is. As much as I’d like to see better numbers, more improvement, I accept what I see. Upward trend? Okay. Downward trend? Okay. How about moving on instead of complaining about every tick […]

NEED MORE, WANT MORE? GIVE IT A MINUTE

Why does William Shakespeare need more? Because, according to him, he’s a fool. He didn’t call himself a wise man, but I figured it out. The greatest writer in the English language knows enough to know he’s a fool? Will wants more, he’s a lifelong learner, and he’s game for it. But, what if you […]

CONTINUING LEGACY, CONTINUING STORY

When a continuing legacy includes another brick in the wall, or sidewalk, it’s a reminder. Who does this? I do, as part of a group, a family group. What’s it a reminder for? The path ahead.
