AN ELVIS ROOM? THERE’S ALWAYS ROOM FOR ELVIS

I’ve spent more time in museums than any other institutions, and the idea of an Elvis room outside of Graceland seemed unlikely.

And? I was wrong.

“Would you like to see the Elvis Room?”

What’s the right answer?

For me it was another question.

“You’ve got an Elvis Room?”

Ordinarily any mention of a theme room is a go.

Do I want to see it? Yes, and I’d like to see it right now.

But I minded my guest manners and fought the urge to ransack the house looking for Elvis.

After wine and food, “The Elvis Room is painted in blue suede.”

I’ve worked up my rendition of Blue Suede Shoes this year and I’m going to play the Elvis Room?

I felt so excited I might burn my house and steal my own car.

 

The Climb To The Top

I’ve been a fan since second grade when one of the neighborhood kids had a stack of Elvis albums. (Hey Gary)

His movies proved every guy wanted to be him and every girl wanted to be with him.

Elvis was either the coolest guy in the galaxy, or he had a good photographer.

With the Elvis movie in 2022, the Fall And Rise Of Elvis Presley from 2024, and the new Elvis movie out, he’s bigger than ever.

 

A Throne For The King

This is James Dean and Marlo Brando from the 50’s; this is Bono and Bruce from the 80’s, and every singer and guitar man who ever walked out on a stage.

There’s some Elvis in them all, in us all, and to deny it is to leave a hole where Elvis should be.

The Elvis Connection

Elvis was the whole package, the voice, the look, the moves.

He was the trend setter, the influencer of a generation, the style icon.

If guys put together a look that says ‘Elvis’ they’re looking sharp; if women dress up like an Elvis girl?

You’ve got it going when you see Ann-Margaret in the mirror.

 

Elvis Room Essentials

Start with the proper base, then proceed.

I’ve hung many a museum show, and this was a museum show room.

My only suggestion?

 

 

PS:

When you meet people you don’t always know what you’ll find out. A know a guy who said he has a Larry Bird room, but I’ve never seen it.

I didn’t expect to find an Elvis Room anywhere, but there it was in a SW Portland home that could be an elegant set for an Elvis movie.

PSS:

After the Elvis tour we came back downstairs and sang karaoke for an hour before calling it a night.

It was late for the old married couple, almost eight o’clock.

Wife and I came home and had a cup of tea. She went upstairs and turned on the TV.

I went downstairs and did what anyone would do after finding an Elvis Room.

I plugged in my guitar and let it rip.

Elvis was in the building.
