BRAVE BLOGGER? HOW BRAVE

It’s hard to explain bravery, as in a brave blogger, to a little girl when you scream like a little girl at the same things they scream about.
Mouse? EEEEEK.
Rat? EEEEEEEEK.
Spider? Run for it.
It started out so normal.

Me: Come and help old Granddad move some furniture.
Five year old Granddaughter: Okay.

We started in the basement bedroom, sprucing things up for visitors.
It’s a nice room, one of my favorites.
We keep it up like my mother in-law did when she lived here.

Keeping Kids Busy

I’m not sure who spotted the spider first, but we had the same reaction:
EEEEEK
Spider in a bedroom gets a big eeek.
She got checked a few weeks ago for a spider bite.
My wife got a spider bite that left a mess.
My son and I found a huge spider in the other room, a threatening spider way up there.
When we got off the chair and went after it, the spider jumped in our faces.
Needless to say, this particular spider created a learning moment: How to face fear while being afraid.

The Movable Spider

Like good hunters we stalked our prey.
It must have known something was up because it started evasive maneuvers.
More like sighting us in, drawing a bead.
If I’m writing about a brave blogger I needed to do more than reach up with a tissue and crush it to death.
How to demonstrate bravery to a five year old without peeing your pants?
Yeah, this is it.

Stand under the spider? Give it a try.

Five year old: It’s moving.
Me: (If I stand still it won’t jump)
Fiver year old: It’s right over your head.
Me: Does it look like it’s getting ready to jump?
Five: Yes.
Me: Should I look up and check?
Five: It might jump in your face.
Me: (That’s exactly what it will do.)
Five: Look up.

This is what was there:

What it looked like to me:

All together now, “EEEEEK.”
