PORTLAND SUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM

The Portland summer is why people move to Oregon. It’s also why people move away. Why? Because it doesn’t last long enough. That wasn’t the case yesterday at Portland Center Stage.

TIME CRUNCH? IT’S ALWAYS CRUNCHING AND THE SHOW STILL GOES ON

Time crunch? No one’s got time for that. Oh, wait. If you’re like me, you’re either late or early getting places. Mostly late, which always brings comments like, “Have you ever heard of time management?” Yes, I have, and I’m getting better at it each time. But there’s still that problem:

LIVE THEATER WORKS TO EXPLAIN CURRENT EVENTS

Live theater? Please. I’ve got a jacked up bill with Ziply Fiber, an AppleTV account, and the most important: Three channels of C-SPAN, the kings of slow TV, which is just my speed. Why would I leave the room with the big screen? Ever? For live theater, I leave for live theater. Don’t you?

THE GREAT LEAP FOR SPORTS DREAMS IN PORTLAND

The Great Leap is on stage in downtown Portland, Oregon. It’s a solid jumper, a score for the home team. Who would have guessed four actors could show history so well? And do a basketball game without players and made it feel as real as any last second drama. No fouls called on this play.

FRIDA KAHLO PAINTS PORTLAND IN DARK RAIN

Frida Kahlo came to Portland disguised as Vanessa Severo. Or was it the other way around? Either way, I met them when they both showed up at Portland Center Stage At The Armory and crowded the stage with characters.

BROADWAY ROSE MAMMA MIA: I WENT AGAIN AND LIKED IT MORE IF THAT’S POSSIBLE

It was about six years back when Portland had a guy who built the Blazers by ‘Pritch Slapping’ the NBA before he got fired for too much ‘Pritch Slapping.’   Mamma Mia: Touring Broadway Show […]

LADY DAY PLAYS BOOMERPDX BAR AND GRILL

“Most men won’t go to live theater with their wives,” was an observation my wife shared. We were walking out of Portland Center Stage at the Armory on NW 11th by Powell’s Tuesday night when she said it. I was revved up after seeing LADY DAY AT EMERSON’S BAR AND GRILL. “Did I ever thank […]

Theater In Portland And Tigard, How To Dress

At some point I’ll probably get used to going to live theater, but it hasn’t happened yet. Actors and clowns still feel a little suspicious. So do writers, but what’re you gonna do.   No one dresses to write, everyone dresses for the theater, at least everyone with gray hair and I’ve got […]
