USEFUL BOOMERS FOR MATERIAL CULTURE

Useful boomers should know things, the sort of things that show a certain level of awareness. Awareness is useful, so is cleanliness. Directing that awareness to history is even more useful. But it can’t be funky history, so let’s start with the basic question: What Happened? People need to know the right stuff.

SEATTLE FREEZE WARMS TACOMA

The Seattle Freeze in February isn’t about the weather. It’s not about the weather in July or August, either. If it’s not freezing weather, then what is it? Attitude, a chilly attitude.

ATTENTION ECONOMY SPENDING CAP

Google’s response to ‘Attention Economy’ is “About 569,000,000 results (0.47 seconds).” I didn’t read them all, but the first few referred to the ‘so-called’ attention economy. ‘So-called’ because no one wants to be shamed for thinking there’s such a thing as an attention economy? Look at that top picture. What’s it say? More than you want […]

SENIOR CLASS FOOTBALL: CHANGING OF THE GUARD

The senior class of 1973, way back when, came into a difficult football situation as sophomores. We’d spent freshman year pounding it out over all comers. We had size, speed, and some of us were still growing. You could say we had high hopes moving forward. Instead we got stuck. The high school coaching was […]

OK BOOMER: THE SIXTIES FINALLY EXPLAINED

When did the 60’s begin in Portland? Don’t bother looking at a calendar for an answer. You won’t find a starting date. Younger people who aren’t so young any more see the 60’s as a boomer blast. It was the one party they missed, a special time for spoiled children to throw themselves a party […]

CAGE FIGHT SHOWS GOOD MANNERS

The line outside a symphony hall finds civilized people on their best behavior, looking good and full of hope for a night to remember. It’s a well-dressed crowd on Broadway, a shuffling queue of elites found in cities around the world where even a mugger might receive a gracious thank you. By elite, I mean […]

Cultural Exchange Without Leaving Home

Last night my cultural exchange student, better said as ‘our’ cultural exchange student, prepared dinner for seven.   And the kid can cook.   I know the difference when someone mails it in from the kitchen. How? Because someone I know tried doing it for years.   Me.   Now I’m much better and […]

121212 And The Baby Boomer Soul

Mick Jagger’s no Baby Boomer.   Too old, just like the 78 million born between 1946-1964. He showed up in 1943.   This is what I heard from Mick Jagger, “We’re glad to be here, but you’ll have to do us the same favor if it rains in London.”   He gets it, but it’s […]

WHAT THE FUTURE LOOKED LIKE TO NEW PARENTS

New families are the future of life on earth? Agree? Who doesn’t hope such a broad statement is true with kids in the house? Instead of feeling trapped by the needs of someone other than yourself, feel the power. Do it right and they grow up to make the sort of decisions that promote […]

BOOMER HUMP GYM

If you’ve hit the gym a few years you won’t notice the Boomer Hump Gym. If you’ve just started, stay started with grown men wearing pedal pushers, women in pantyhose/ ‘yoga’ pants. Choose your attire. Have fun. It’s two Olympic looking lifting partners spotting each other with hands on safety at low weight. Get the […]
