NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF NATURAL MEDICINE: THE DOCTORS ARE IN

From a distance the ribbon cutting for the National University Of Natural Medicine appeared as yet another civic event in Portland, Oregon.
Speakers spoke, ribbons cut, cheers all around.
It was all of that and so much more, like overcoming impossible odds.
And yet . . .

GREAT NEWS FROM MT. ANGEL AND JOHN ROSSI PODCAST

The great news from Mt. Angel comes via the John Rossi Podcast visit to Lou’s Kitchen.
The Kitchen is a big winner in Best of Willamette Valley 2026 claiming the Gold Medal for best all-round restaurant.
When I opened the door the place was packed and buzzing at noon.
One grilled chicken salad and an Arnold Palmer later we retired to the podcast studio to work on stuff and thangs.

THE PROPER PERSPECTIVE TO WRITING AN EVERYDAY BLOG

An everyday blog is just what it sounds like:
Every. Day.
Like most things worth pursuing, it takes tenacity and creativity to make something worth writing into something worth reading.
No problem, write. Right?
But, there’s more.

BEER BELLY, BEER GUT, THEN WHAT

I’m working on a beer belly reduction plan, which means what?
Drink less beer, what else?
I was lamenting my loss after meeting a new guy who fixed broken guitar amps in his garage.
Me: I think the signs are lining up to loose my gut.

BEING USEFUL LIKE ROBERT FULGHUM

This isn’t Robert Fulghum, it’s me being useful in my Robert Fulghum beard which has gone the way of every beard that dared show itself on my face.
He is probably a better beard steward than me. My enthusiasm for grooming an extra pet in the house lasts about six months.
The last dog lived sixteen years; the current dog is going on five.

EXPERIENCE: HOW TO TELL ONE THING FROM ANOTHER

      1. Visual: one is different than the rest.   2. Material: one is man made.   3. Use: one is decorative.   4. Location: chickens are world wide.

SWING HARD OR SOFT, BUT HIT THE SWEET SCIENCE

BABY BOOMER RETIREMENT FEARS

Big life and big fears? Or the other way around? Baby boomer retirement fears come in all sizes, like our houses, which we fear. A doctor might say fear that won’t go away is a medical condition. You could get a pill for that. Instead, try and choke your fear down and carry on. What’s […]

BOOMERPDX BOOK CHOP

Like Food Channel’s Chopped Except No One Spits On The Pages. The most often heard complaint of the avid reader? “What do I read next? I’m in between books.” Even with libraries and bookstores stocked to the roof, the next book is still an important choice. Museums have research libraries, colleges have academic libraries; hospitals […]

How Older Men Express Themselves When No One Is Around To Call BS

I knew older men who’d been everywhere, done everything, and could drive any car ever invented.   They’d had every job from sales executive to mailman, to factory worker, to fighter pilot in three wars. Sometimes it was true.   One of them said he was shot down and imprisoned on a Japanese held […]

How To Sake Bomb

Start A Boomer Birthday Right What goes best with sushi? Ask your server at Mio Sushi. Ours recommended the traditional Sake Bomb. Sake Bomb? Huh? That’s what I asked. Am I the only baby boomer who’s never heard of it? And why is it called a bomb? Start with Japanese beer, like Sapporo, and a […]

MEXICO TRAVEL: PUERTO VALLARTA PERFECTION, pt2

First thing you’ll need is a new hat. Pick one, maybe two.   Once you get into the swing of things you can adjust.   Not a hat person? You are now.

ROSLYN WASHINGTON SATURDAY EVENING OASIS IN THE WOODS

Quick reaction: What’s the first thing that comes to mind walking past a bar like this in Seattle, or Chicago, or Milwaukee? Cross the street? Hogs at the curb, chunky guys in black SECURITY shirts. It’s a scene ready for action. If you’re a stranger to such parts, you’d walk past in other […]
