GREAT NEWS FROM MT. ANGEL AND JOHN ROSSI PODCAST

The great news from Mt. Angel comes via the John Rossi Podcast visit to Lou’s Kitchen.
The Kitchen is a big winner in Best of Willamette Valley 2026 claiming the Gold Medal for best all-round restaurant.
When I opened the door the place was packed and buzzing at noon.
One grilled chicken salad and an Arnold Palmer later we retired to the podcast studio to work on stuff and thangs.

THE PROPER PERSPECTIVE TO WRITING AN EVERYDAY BLOG

An everyday blog is just what it sounds like:
Every. Day.
Like most things worth pursuing, it takes tenacity and creativity to make something worth writing into something worth reading.
No problem, write. Right?
But, there’s more.

BEER BELLY, BEER GUT, THEN WHAT

I’m working on a beer belly reduction plan, which means what?
Drink less beer, what else?
I was lamenting my loss after meeting a new guy who fixed broken guitar amps in his garage.
Me: I think the signs are lining up to loose my gut.

BEING USEFUL LIKE ROBERT FULGHUM

This isn’t Robert Fulghum, it’s me being useful in my Robert Fulghum beard which has gone the way of every beard that dared show itself on my face.
He is probably a better beard steward than me. My enthusiasm for grooming an extra pet in the house lasts about six months.
The last dog lived sixteen years; the current dog is going on five.
Am I being useful for them? More than I am to a beard.

A SECOND LOOK AT “THAT AIN’T RIGHT”

What’s a second look at this garage arrangement tell you?
What’s missing: a fitness area with a treadmill, squat rack, work bench, maybe a couple of cars stacked on a lift, and a designated music area with guitars, drums, and amps all ready to go.
Not to say this garage is lacking anything, but it looks more like a storage unit than a daily use area to build on, play in, and break a sweat.
This is a great set-up for people ready to move. Loading time in three, two, one . . .

WEAPONS FOR HOME DEFENSE: WHERE DO YOU LIVE?

Home defense begins in the home, but you knew that. The real question of weapons and home defense starts with location, location, location.   I met a Portland man who bought a former crack house. Customers who didn’t get the press report on the crack wire crawled through his windows for a year. […]

BABY BOOMER DEATH MARCH

What Happens When That Music Starts? From the Washington Post: “In January, the CDC reported that an average of six people die every day because of alcohol poisoning and that 76 percent are ages 35 to 64. Three-quarters are men.” That party bus of life shifted gears when we weren’t looking. The baby boomer mantra […]

Wellness Luxury: Feeling Good For Doing Good Again

To do good you don’t have to feel good. If you do it’s a wellness luxury, an expression I just made up. Google wellness luxury. This isn’t that sort of post.   Take mental health for example. Nothing makes any difference to you? No one cares about you? Feeling earful about the future? Feeling sad […]

ADDICTED TO WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN

Some addictions have treatment. Not when you’re addicted to what could have been. The lady in the image is a poster child for living dreams and sharing them. From a country girl in south England to traveling the world, she collected the sort of memories usually seen on the big screen. She joined the armed […]

BOOMER BUCKET LIST: SNOW MACHINE

Be Careful Or You Might Ride Your Boomer Bucket List Right Into A Bucket. Have you made your bucket list, the things you want to do and see before you kick the bucket? If not, you’ve got time. What’s the difference between a normal bucket list and a boomer bucket list? Call it age. Call […]

IF MILLENNIALS SUCK, WHO ELSE SUCKS

A recent poll questions whether millennials suck as bad as everyone else. Too many times you hear about the new ‘biggest ever’ generation in negative terms. You’d think millennials suck worse than any other generation. Baby boomers enjoy dragging the youngsters around by their arm and reminding them they suck. Millennials seem to enjoy the […]

KEN KESEY, SOMETIMES A GREAT OREGON IN KERNVILLE

Kernville house for Ken Kesey’s Sometimes A Great Notion In some parts of America I balk at driving the back roads. I drive on, but carefully. Those roads show more about a shared history if you look hard enough. The Siletz Highway, OR 229 headed east off of 101 north of Depoe Bay, is one […]

TIGARD TAPPHORIA FUNDRAISER FOR TIGARD POLICE OFFICER MATTHEW BARBEE

1/31/18 6-9pm     Tigard Tapphoria is holding a Fund Raiser for Tigard Police Officer Matthew Barbee.   This is tomorrow night, Wednesday, 1/31/18.   Besides being a good cause, there’s more connections between Tigard Tapphoria and Tigard than beer, food, and good company.

VIDANTA EARLY BIRD MEETS THE MIRACLE CREW AT BURGER CUSTOM MADE

Every Five Diamond resort has a miracle crew, the people who make it all happen day after day, and make it look so easy. You have to look hard to find them, or be a Vidanta early bird.   This crew was busy setting up, busy like a NASCAR pit crew. Professionals one […]
