GREAT NEWS FROM MT. ANGEL AND JOHN ROSSI PODCAST

The great news from Mt. Angel comes via the John Rossi Podcast visit to Lou’s Kitchen.
The Kitchen is a big winner in Best of Willamette Valley 2026 claiming the Gold Medal for best all-round restaurant.
When I opened the door the place was packed and buzzing at noon.
One grilled chicken salad and an Arnold Palmer later we retired to the podcast studio to work on stuff and thangs.

THE PROPER PERSPECTIVE TO WRITING AN EVERYDAY BLOG

An everyday blog is just what it sounds like:
Every. Day.
Like most things worth pursuing, it takes tenacity and creativity to make something worth writing into something worth reading.
No problem, write. Right?
But, there’s more.

BEER BELLY, BEER GUT, THEN WHAT

I’m working on a beer belly reduction plan, which means what?
Drink less beer, what else?
I was lamenting my loss after meeting a new guy who fixed broken guitar amps in his garage.
Me: I think the signs are lining up to loose my gut.

BEING USEFUL LIKE ROBERT FULGHUM

This isn’t Robert Fulghum, it’s me being useful in my Robert Fulghum beard which has gone the way of every beard that dared show itself on my face.
He is probably a better beard steward than me. My enthusiasm for grooming an extra pet in the house lasts about six months.
The last dog lived sixteen years; the current dog is going on five.
Am I being useful for them? More than I am to a beard.

A SECOND LOOK AT “THAT AIN’T RIGHT”

What’s a second look at this garage arrangement tell you?
What’s missing: a fitness area with a treadmill, squat rack, work bench, maybe a couple of cars stacked on a lift, and a designated music area with guitars, drums, and amps all ready to go.
Not to say this garage is lacking anything, but it looks more like a storage unit than a daily use area to build on, play in, and break a sweat.
This is a great set-up for people ready to move. Loading time in three, two, one . . .

DR MOLE MOVES FROM HILLSDALE BUT STAYS ON CAPITOL HWY

One of the best parts of being married long term is sharing the other person’s ups and downs. Over time you get to see how they make their way in the world, to see the face they present to each new challenge.   My wife, Elaine, aka Dr Mole of drmolepdx.com online, arrived at […]

HEALTHCARE BULLY PREYS ON THE WEAKEST

Any coherent healthcare bully debate needs to go beyond the numbers, the insurance companies. Beyond drug company research and development that puts the BIG in Big Pharma. It’s about who the healthcare bully reaches for in the debate. The most vulnerable, of course. The population currently undergoing severe medical treatment. I’ll use cancer treatment […]

BoomerPdx And End Of Life Debate

Oregon wins the trifecta for end-of-life discussion. 1. Oregon Senate Bill 451 establishes the nation’s first state registry of people’s wishes for end-of-life care. 2. U.S. Rep. Earl Blumenauer’s H.R. 1898 allows funds for doctors discussing end-of-life choices with their patients. 3. The state has allowed physician-assisted suicide/death with dignity as a final option. In […]

FAILING MEMORIES, ENHANCED THOUGHT, BOOMER BRAIN

Failing memories include a list of golden moments that show up online more often than it should. They’re supposed to invoke a better time, but for the wrong reasons. Someone needs to set it straight, but who? Could be you if you saw the television shows first hand, been alive for events, and remember. The […]

MILLENNIALS LIVE WITH PARENTS

Is it a good thing, or failure to launch? Talk to baby boomers and ask when they moved out. You get the same answer most of the time. “Right after high school,” is common. “After college,” is usual. It’s ‘after’ something. After deciding they don’t want any parent telling them what to do? After hearing, […]

THE DAY DRUGS STOPPED WORKING? NEVER

The last place you want to go after the drugs stopped. The drugs stopped working at a mom and pop funeral parlor where the owners lived upstairs. A shiny metal coffin sat in the chapel with a beautiful young woman inside. She wore a conservative suit, the sort of clothes that get people hired […]

ABIQUA FALLS DREAMSCAPE, OREGON TREASURE

Who knew of the Abiqua Falls dreamscape? The last thing a know-it-all wants is something new, something they don’t know. It’s a problem for some, a challenge for others. A short walk to a river and waterfall? That’s what the listings say, but not if you like your car. Then it’s a longer walk, […]

SUPERIOR ARIZONA AFTER APACHE TEARS SEARCH

One of the most impressive rocks I’ve knocked out of a rock wall? Apache tears.   Just another rock until I held it up to the sun for my own solar eclipse.   What’s going on in there? See through rocks in Superior Arizona.

MEMORY CUE, EVIDENCE FROM ANOTHER LIFETIME

How long ago was 1979?   The Brooklyn Union Gas Company makes the call.   How often do you run across things, not your things, that remind you of a different life?   Then it’s your stuff and you don’t remember.
