BEING USEFUL LIKE ROBERT FULGHUM

This isn’t Robert Fulghum, it’s me being useful in my Robert Fulghum beard which has gone the way of every beard that dared show itself on my face.
He is probably a better beard steward than me. My enthusiasm for grooming an extra pet in the house lasts about six months.
The last dog lived sixteen years; the current dog is going on five.
Am I being useful for them? More than I am to a beard.

A SECOND LOOK AT “THAT AIN’T RIGHT”

What’s a second look at this garage arrangement tell you?
What’s missing: a fitness area with a treadmill, squat rack, work bench, maybe a couple of cars stacked on a lift, and a designated music area with guitars, drums, and amps all ready to go.
Not to say this garage is lacking anything, but it looks more like a storage unit than a daily use area to build on, play in, and break a sweat.
This is a great set-up for people ready to move. Loading time in three, two, one . . .

HISTORICAL FATHER’S DAYS 2026

Historical Father’s Days in the olde country where I watched my children roam like Vikings conquering a new land.
Corfe Castle fell to my marauders.
The locals didn’t like our style of exploration.
The walkway through the ruins led to more investigation off the path.
“How would you like it if we went to your country and climbed on the Jefferson monument?”
“If it was in ruins like this it sounds fun.”

FARMING DISASTER DONE ON PURPOSE

So much of the awful results of the farming disaster in the old Soviet Union came from bad policy decisions.
In the early 1930’s their main guy Stalin decided he knew more about science and farming than anyone.
He also had advisers explaining it to him in a way he agreed with.
Who doesn’t love the unconditional, “You are right, comrade.”
There was no room for disagreement.

FOLLOW THE LEADER? NOT SO FAST

‘Follow the leader,’ they say.
‘It’ll be a fun learning experience.’
If that’s a green light for you, take another look.
Maybe ask a question like, ‘Where are we going?’

Portland Mole Removal

How many Portland baby boomers remember when they were pregnant, or their significant others were pregnant?   Didn’t the world seem full of pregnant women?   They were everywhere and you were part of it.   Then you had your baby and you didn’t notice as many pregnant women. Instead you saw a million kids. […]

CANCER EXERCISE EXPLAINED BY CHEMO RADIATION

An article came out yesterday supporting the connection between cancer treatment and cancer exercise. It’s a positive connection in case there are doubts.   ‘The Guardian’ rolled out a well studied post with a sub-title, “Leading Australian researchers back world-first campaign for activity to be part of any treatment,” under this title:   […]

SECOND OPINION: WILL THAT BE ONE CHEMO OR TWO

From cancer.org: Cancer cells tend to grow fast, and chemo drugs kill fast-growing cells. But because these drugs travel throughout the body, they can affect normal, healthy cells that are fast-growing, too. Damage to healthy cells causes side effects. Side effects are not always as bad as you might expect, but many people worry about […]

AUTHOR PHOTOS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS? Pt.1

Do Not Make Direct Eye Contact?   This man looks like he might be blind, which explains the eye contact part. The other part is what an author looks like from different time periods. There’s little difference in the region under a beard from any period.   If Mt. Rushmore for writers needs […]

THE SOUND OF CIVIC DUTY

Ask An Academic Professional About Civic Duty And Listen Hard. You won’t hear about their civic duty or your civic duty, but the shared community. Might not be your community either. Keep listening. Civic duty is more than boundaries and lines drawn on a map, they say. An academic pro, the teacher, counselor, the administrator, […]

WHY WHY IS THE WRONG WORD

Ask Why Then Brace Yourself For A Hit You Didn’t Want. It’s The Wrong Word. No one asks the guy who accidentally whacks a finger with his hammer why he did it. No one asks the cook why they cut themselves. And no one asks the athlete why they lost. Ask why and you won’t […]

PORTLAND/GRESHAM SANTACON RUMBLE

If you’ve got friends who give you a Santa suit as a present, then ask you to go to SantaCon with them, there’s only one answer. Stall. When they ask the next year, stall again. If they ask to ‘borrow’ the Santa coat for someone else, then you have to go. This years real SantaCon […]

DEAR SASQUATCH! IT DISAPPEARED, BUT I GOT THE PICS

How can this be the end of Sasquatch!? It was my first time and now it’s over?   My impression? I should have signed up earlier, but probably not last year.   People camping near us gave a round up of great times. It was their fifth Sasquatch!

OREGON BEACH: RULES TO RELAX ON THE ROCKS

This is first hand information on the Oregon beach, any Oregon beach, and how to relax.   Rule #1: Don’t get comfortable.   If you want comfort, go to California, or Mexico, or Florida. Nothing spells comfort like sand and sun.   Looking for a comfortable Oregon beach? It won’t take long. Drag […]
