BEING USEFUL LIKE ROBERT FULGHUM

This isn’t Robert Fulghum, it’s me being useful in my Robert Fulghum beard which has gone the way of every beard that dared show itself on my face.
He is probably a better beard steward than me. My enthusiasm for grooming an extra pet in the house lasts about six months.
The last dog lived sixteen years; the current dog is going on five.
Am I being useful for them? More than I am to a beard.

A SECOND LOOK AT “THAT AIN’T RIGHT”

What’s a second look at this garage arrangement tell you?
What’s missing: a fitness area with a treadmill, squat rack, work bench, maybe a couple of cars stacked on a lift, and a designated music area with guitars, drums, and amps all ready to go.
Not to say this garage is lacking anything, but it looks more like a storage unit than a daily use area to build on, play in, and break a sweat.
This is a great set-up for people ready to move. Loading time in three, two, one . . .

HISTORICAL FATHER’S DAYS 2026

Historical Father’s Days in the olde country where I watched my children roam like Vikings conquering a new land.
Corfe Castle fell to my marauders.
The locals didn’t like our style of exploration.
The walkway through the ruins led to more investigation off the path.
“How would you like it if we went to your country and climbed on the Jefferson monument?”
“If it was in ruins like this it sounds fun.”

FARMING DISASTER DONE ON PURPOSE

So much of the awful results of the farming disaster in the old Soviet Union came from bad policy decisions.
In the early 1930’s their main guy Stalin decided he knew more about science and farming than anyone.
He also had advisers explaining it to him in a way he agreed with.
Who doesn’t love the unconditional, “You are right, comrade.”
There was no room for disagreement.

FOLLOW THE LEADER? NOT SO FAST

‘Follow the leader,’ they say.
‘It’ll be a fun learning experience.’
If that’s a green light for you, take another look.
Maybe ask a question like, ‘Where are we going?’

NATUROPATHIC PHYSICIANS KNOW NUTRITION FIRST

My wife shared a joke with me. She’s a naturopathic physician, Dr. Gillaspie. It had nothing to do with the old television show with young Dr. Kildare and his colleague Dr. Gillaspie.   “Early in our practices doctors from my class would talk about what it must be like as an RD, a real […]

BOOMERITIS, OR WHY DOES IT HURT WHEN I DO THIS?

The Longer You Let Yourself Go, The Longer The Trail Back. One doctor joke goes like this: “It hurts when I raise my arm.” Doc says, “Don’t raise your arm.” It’s as funny the first time as it is the last, if you don’t have arm pain. Most of us have pain from one thing […]

WHAT THE FUTURE LOOKED LIKE TO NEW PARENTS

New families are the future of life on earth? Agree? Who doesn’t hope such a broad statement is true with kids in the house? Instead of feeling trapped by the needs of someone other than yourself, feel the power. Do it right and they grow up to make the sort of decisions that promote […]

LEGAL OREGON WEED MAKES YOU STUPID?

So How Do You Explain The Way Legal Oregon Weed Navigated The Legal System? As a sixty year old baby boomer I like age limits high for alcohol, weed, and tobacco. You could raise them even higher and who’d complain? Just as long as I’m not too young. Dangers to youth are no joking matter. […]

HOW HARD? BOOMER HARD

Growing Up During Baby Boomer Years Made You Hard. The last thing you want to be called is soft. Soft in the head, soft in the gut, soft arms. Part of living a sedentary life, not a lazy life but not active, is how it leaves a body. Soft. Soft and lumpy after too many […]

LIVING UNDER A PORTLAND CHERRY BLOSSOM CANOPY FOR AN AFTERNOON

Portland cherry blossom between Burnside and Steel This side of a drone video the best place to see the whole run of the Portland cherry blossom parade is the on ramp off Front to the Steel Bridge. Just enough space and height to see the beautiful curve of nature. It looks deserted at […]

Travel Education Fatigue Makes Well Rounded Snob

The first time I heard an acquaintance talk about travel education I was impressed as hell. They made me want to do it, to go where they’d been. Then I heard it again, and again. And again. Has this happened to you, travel education fatigue? You need to fight through it.

VANDERBILT DAYS AT THE OMNI GROVE PARK INN

You don’t need to be a Vanderbilt to fall in love with The Omni Grove Park Inn. If you were a Vanderbilt, or a friend of the Vanderbilts, you’d stay at Biltmore House back in the day. That day began in 1895, and you’d travel with your staff, which included someone to dress you for […]
