A SECOND LOOK AT “THAT AIN’T RIGHT”

What’s a second look at this garage arrangement tell you?
What’s missing: a fitness area with a treadmill, squat rack, work bench, maybe a couple of cars stacked on a lift, and a designated music area with guitars, drums, and amps all ready to go.
Not to say this garage is lacking anything, but it looks more like a storage unit than a daily use area to build on, play in, and break a sweat.
This is a great set-up for people ready to move. Loading time in three, two, one . . .

HISTORICAL FATHER’S DAYS 2026

Historical Father’s Days in the olde country where I watched my children roam like Vikings conquering a new land.
Corfe Castle fell to my marauders.
The locals didn’t like our style of exploration.
The walkway through the ruins led to more investigation off the path.
“How would you like it if we went to your country and climbed on the Jefferson monument?”
“If it was in ruins like this it sounds fun.”

FARMING DISASTER DONE ON PURPOSE

So much of the awful results of the farming disaster in the old Soviet Union came from bad policy decisions.
In the early 1930’s their main guy Stalin decided he knew more about science and farming than anyone.
He also had advisers explaining it to him in a way he agreed with.
Who doesn’t love the unconditional, “You are right, comrade.”
There was no room for disagreement.

FOLLOW THE LEADER? NOT SO FAST

‘Follow the leader,’ they say.
‘It’ll be a fun learning experience.’
If that’s a green light for you, take another look.
Maybe ask a question like, ‘Where are we going?’

RESPECT PEOPLE WHO TRUST YOU, OR . . .

This is the shocking end to a man trusted to respect people in his country.
It was all good until it wasn’t.
Is there a lesson to learn?
The people he governed had had enough and voted him out?
Nooooo.

CANCER RESEARCH THROUGH BETTER BEER

“I’m buying you a beer,” G said.   “That’s awfully nice, but you don’t have to,” I said.   “It’s that one,” he said.   “Which one?” I asked.   “At the bottom of the Daily Specials.”   I looked at the beer menu and didn’t see it.   “Where are the specials?” […]

MENS HEALTH MONTH, SEE YOUR DOCTOR

Younger people ignore their health? That’s not a good trend during Mens Health Month. Maybe they mistrust the medical industry? Big Pharma? There’s some evidence millennials are the most into ‘self care.’ That’s nice, except when self care isn’t enough. Older people ignoring their health is an even worse trend. The mental part of […]

YOKE BUILDING PULLS A BETTER LIFE, BUT HOW

If you’re called yoked it’s not a joke, and it’s not about woodworking. It’s a compliment. Someone noticed your gains. They think you’re strong. You look strong, feel strong, and it’s because you lift weights. Whether a fitness lifestyle or just trying it out, lifting changes your body. Strong as an ox? Not a bad […]

WHY SMALL TOWN PEOPLE MATTER

Lost in the hyper speed of modern life on a 1.4 terabit internet connection is the human pace of life. Call it small town life for small town people, but remember we’re all small town people once you peel off the layers of sophistication.   Jet setters once clamored for seats on the […]

WOODEN BOATS, EARTH DAY, DEPOE BAY, OREGON CRAB. AND BEER

What do you call fooling around with wooden boats? Fun. That’s what Ratty says: “There is nothing — absolutely nothing — half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats. In or out of ’em, it doesn’t matter. Nothing seems really to matter, that’s the charm of it. Whether you get away, or […]

PEARL TAVERN, JOEY HARRINGTON, GERDING THEATER

What makes a baby boomer date night better than the Pearl Tavern, Joey Harrington, and a play at the Gerding Theater? Not much. At least you’ll start out knowing one of the three is a good bet. All boomers love looking back and remembering the good old days. Since we already see Joey Harrington in […]
