A SECOND LOOK AT “THAT AIN’T RIGHT”

What’s a second look at this garage arrangement tell you?
What’s missing: a fitness area with a treadmill, squat rack, work bench, maybe a couple of cars stacked on a lift, and a designated music area with guitars, drums, and amps all ready to go.
Not to say this garage is lacking anything, but it looks more like a storage unit than a daily use area to build on, play in, and break a sweat.
This is a great set-up for people ready to move. Loading time in three, two, one . . .

HISTORICAL FATHER’S DAYS 2026

Historical Father’s Days in the olde country where I watched my children roam like Vikings conquering a new land.
Corfe Castle fell to my marauders.
The locals didn’t like our style of exploration.
The walkway through the ruins led to more investigation off the path.
“How would you like it if we went to your country and climbed on the Jefferson monument?”
“If it was in ruins like this it sounds fun.”

FARMING DISASTER DONE ON PURPOSE

So much of the awful results of the farming disaster in the old Soviet Union came from bad policy decisions.
In the early 1930’s their main guy Stalin decided he knew more about science and farming than anyone.
He also had advisers explaining it to him in a way he agreed with.
Who doesn’t love the unconditional, “You are right, comrade.”
There was no room for disagreement.

FOLLOW THE LEADER? NOT SO FAST

‘Follow the leader,’ they say.
‘It’ll be a fun learning experience.’
If that’s a green light for you, take another look.
Maybe ask a question like, ‘Where are we going?’

RESPECT PEOPLE WHO TRUST YOU, OR . . .

This is the shocking end to a man trusted to respect people in his country.
It was all good until it wasn’t.
Is there a lesson to learn?
The people he governed had had enough and voted him out?
Nooooo.

CANCER STIGMA VS HPV16 THROAT CANCER STIGMA

Recent posts on my trials with cancer reached forty out of fifty states in America. That’s the reach map for boomerpdx from google analytics.   The shaded states have the most readers. The white states forgot to check in. Does it make the shaded states better. Yes, it does, but only until they shade in. […]

PREPARE FOR A DOCTOR VISIT

Do you get in shape for your doctor visit? For too many men it takes an force of nature to schedule a doctor visit. Women, not so much. That force of nature is called a wife after she makes an appointment two months away. She knows you’ll go; you know you’ll go. How you show […]

WINNING THE PAIN GAME

Beat The Pain Game, Then The Withdrawal Game. One of the regulars came in today, though not on his cherried out Harley. Wet and cold is no way to ride a hog if you don’t have to. Said he’d been out a couple of weeks for shoulder surgery. Five places on his shoulder got opened […]

HIDING THE TRUTH IN PLAIN VIEW? GOOD PLAN, MAN

Hiding The Truth? From baby boomers? Try again.   Sports fans know all about hiding the truth. Others not so much. For all the memory problems on record, no one forgets the highlights of hiding the truth. Did Barry Bonds get help breaking the all-time Major League Baseball home run record? He’s the head of […]

Dear Millennial Voters, All Of You, From Air And Water

The future is closer than you think, and you, millennial voters, will have the final say on the future you want.   Now the last thing you give two damns about is a rant from a flowing silver haired, mustachioed, Mark Twain wannabe blogger. I get it.   But, sometimes people need a little […]

Batman Rescue, Or What To Do With A Bat In The House

Picture yourself and your date out on a most enjoyable night with an invitation to a home cooked dinner. The home in this case was a wonderful West Linn castle abode with a hillside view and an acre of manicured garden in the down sloping backyard. It had a feeling of Xanadu from Citizen […]

NW Boomer Travel, pt.1

The Oregon Alps If you look back at Portland from LaGrande, the miles pile up. But you’re not done. You can’t drive to the Swiss Alps on Interstate 84, but the Oregon Alps are a tank of gasoline away. Look for highway 82 and read the signs to Joseph.

THE KING OF NEW YORK CITY, 1975

Stoner nation rolled in the muddy Woodstock slip and slide in upstate New York. Five years later they took a shower, got a haircut, and danced the disco. Top New York City discos needed the right people managing the door and lines that grew down the sidewalk most weekends. Full of Queens, Brooklyn, and Jersey […]

PORTLAND: THE FOG OF HISTORY

Yesterday’s Tomorrow – A Portland Journey. From the street under your feet to the places you walk by everyday, the untold story unfolds. Except you never see it. We live in the moment. Moving from one place to another is our goal, and it’s enough. But it’s not enough for everyone. It’s not enough for […]
