Education steps up when Harvard slams it down.
No defeat baby, no surrender.
No retreat.
Today, with Harvard’s statement, their decree, their promise to not surrender its independence or relinquish its constitutional rights, we are all Harvard People.
Without the student loan problems.
Now on the street tonight the lights grow dim
The walls of my room are closing in
There’s a war outside still raging
You say it ain’t ours anymore to win
I want to sleep beneath peaceful skies
In my lover’s bed
With a wide open country in my eyes
And these romantic dreams in my head
Bruce is not a Harvard man, I’m not a Harvard man.
I do see M.I.T. stickers out there, though.
Thinking about throwing my Portland State University sticker on my bumper for solidarity.
Why?
College felt like a problem to me, but not my Dad.
My Dad saw education step up for him after the Korean Way and Marines.
He imbued the notion that educations steps up into his kids.
Three out of four took the bait, with the most successful kid saying no thanks.
I took the long way home of many college dropouts: finding somewhere to graduate on the cheap.
From 1973 to 1991 is all it took. Yes, there was a party.
And now I feel special, like a Harvard Man. Problem solved.
Blogger Code, Boomerpdx Version:
I am thrilled to my state college bones to learn Harvard did better than Columbia.
I hope the entire Ivy League and every league after them steps up.
What’s important to understand is that college, for a vast majority of population, means college football.
Here in Oregon things are happening along those lines.
Oregon football makes the headlines.
Oregon free speech also makes the headlines.
Free speech, constitution, it’s a big deal.
No one wants to see a crackdown on bloggers, right?
Most of the time, and I could be wrong, college football fans know the constitution based on the one in their pocket, the one they whip out to school anyone with constitutional questions.
I need one of those.
Columbia could use one. Not Harvard, though.
Will they regret their statement? Their pledge?
Will it affect their student body?
Future Harvard Man Says Education Steps Up
Unless prestigious centers of higher learning don’t get their acts together, this is their path.
No kid is going to want to pump gas to cover tuition like my dad, or work summer jobs like everyone else.
I feel a sense of, ‘So What.’
The university is cracking down on protest and free speech?
Sure, sure, what’s the line on the Ohio State game?
The campus is looking bad.
Your Baby Boomer neighbors and relatives grew up with this.
Go to college and learn.
Today, it’s important to know the role of education in our government.
What’s the role? Come on, I’m blogger, not a sooth sayer.
One thing to know is:
-
The overwhelming majority, 96%, of Members of Congress have a college education.
They know things.
Don’t know much about history
Don’t know much biology
Don’t know much about a science book
Don’t know much about the French I took
