PDX WOOD A WELCOME SIGHT

Call it PDX wood, Portland wood, Oregon wood.
Or call it what it is, Douglas Fir from the Cow Creek Band of the Umpqua.
And call it a nice wall.
It’s nice in a way, but unfinished looking.
Your call:

It’s more than just another wall of milled 2 X 2’s joined together in some kind of Frank Lloyd Wright looking deal with the ends sticking out.
Is it a storage unit? An art installation? Or something to do with the surplus wood from the ceiling?
This is the ceiling that gets everyone looking up before flying off, or just flying in:

Why does the terminal look like a resort? I think I know:
To help keep nervous people calm and relaxed until their Xanax kicks in on the way out, and a welcoming sliver for those coming in.
The Wright Brothers built their airplanes out of wood; the Spruce Goose is made out of wood, what kind I don’t remember.
I can see a big wooden wing up there, which is kind of weird in the jet age.

Portland Preview In Passing

Is this sort of city boosterism common everywhere?
I’ve seen it before at the local Plaid Pantry.
Same artist?

For locals: What would your Portland mural include?
I’ll be building one post by post on my new photo essay project with Nicole Studio.

Before PDX Wood, Get Off The Plane

With a wife seeking the correct balance between comfort and economy we had seats close enough to first class to hit it with a small bag of flavored pretzels.
If you haven’t heard, and I hadn’t, Alaska Airlines has a new reading rule.
I’m not sure what the punishment is, but you’d better leave your trashy summer novels at home.

PS:

Once you get over flying around by the seat of your pants and resign yourself to the process of jet travel, things take a positive swing.
No longer Pre-TSA approved?
Gladly wade through the security line for General passengers and hope to find your wife who does have Pre-TSA approval.
She was right where I wanted her to wait without saying a word.
Just make sure you’re carrying literature.

PSS:

My airport list includes a couple in Europe and a few here in America.
I don’t remember any of them offering a carpet coat from Columbia Sportswear.

Does it come with a pocket for literature from Powell’s City of Books?
Room for a small book behind the zipper?
A zip-drive of literature? Now you’re set.
