LEAVING HOME? NO, JUST GET OUT OF THE HOUSE TODAY

Leaving home is a life event?
Not so much after the first time, whether it was leaving for college, the Army, or a first apartment.
When baby boomers leave home what they’re doing is leaving their house.
So when did leaving the house become such a big deal?
Maybe right after some important study says not leaving the house is a sign of a problem.
It used to be a person was a shut-in if they were disabled, couldn’t get around, or just felt like staying at home.
Covid came and said you have to stay home, or die.
Maybe not in those exact words, but the feelings were there.
Don’t go out and expose yourself to new places or you might end up in a refrigerated morgue truck?
No thanks.

How Far Is Far Enough For Leaving Home

My wife is the final answer on this. Maybe Paris is far enough?
England is far enough?
It’s 2026 with a full steam ahead on social media where lives are turned into Facebook posts and twitter.
If I didn’t write a blog the way I do I’d be in there making a point on everything, because why not.
Writing a blog narrows the focus to where I’m not affected by an opinion on breaking news.
Why? Because the online world is full of urgency, once in a lifetime opportunities, and people with urgent, breaking news, once in a lifetime attitudes.
It works for them, not so much for me.
Truth be told, I’m not sure it works for anyone who attaches their meantal health, their well being, their sense of purpose, to some anonymous platform occupied by strangers who may or may not be who they say they are.
Oh snap, you fooled me. Again. Call me gullible, easy, or willing to engage.
Do I run into people online who are not who I think they are? Probably.
Do I think about them? Can’t say I do because I’m an online blogger working on a post, not some flash point of algorithm function, or malfunction.

BoomerPdx Policy?

Over the years I’ve put out the welcome mat. And picked it back up.
My wife, who an inspiring figure, or would be if she honked her horn more often, is a reader.
Sometimes she reads boomerpdx.
She’s decided I have two personalities: Blogger David v Husband David.
Blogger David is gentle and kind and willing to go an extra mile for my readers. At home.
Husband David runs a tighter ship when leaving home, getting out of the house.
Not as sweet and kind? That’s what she says. And she’s not wrong.
I court readers to come here and relax. No call to action, nothing to buy.
It’s like slow TV. Things unfold at their own pace in blog land.
Instead of ‘hot take’ stop for jackasses to weigh in with their urgent message based on their uninformed opinion, boomerpdx goes the other way.
My most sought after response to my work?
Reader 1: He may have a point.
Reader 2: I could write it better.
Reader 3: I’m starting my own blog, my own podcast. (Hey Rossi)
These are my people, whether they know it or not.
Drop in, roam around, make yourself at home.
If you leave a comment, and I hope you do, I may include it.
If not, I’ll be like the lady in the picture trying to figure out customer service.

PS:

Are readers really customers if they don’t buy anything?
If you come back twice you’re a customer.

PSS:

Married men know this: Like a slow news day, a wife will find something to improve, to fix, and if they’ve worked their magic everywhere else, you’re next.
Incoming.
