BOOMERPDX BLOG APPRECIATION SUNDAY

On this blog appreciation Sunday I high five Thomas Wolfe for good luck.
Again.
The wife and I found him at home in Asheville, North Carolina.
We parked the car, got something out of the trunk, and spent a few hours in the museum and the Old Kentucky Home around the block.
We came back to find the trunk of the rental car open with nothing missing.
I forgot to close it? Inconceivable, but with nothing miss . . . ?
I remember it as Thomas Wolfe Appreciation Day.
With that in mind, I thank my readers and subscribers for their attention to boomerpdx.
As with most beautiful relationships, we could never meet and neither of us would be any the worse off.
But, with so many interesting blogs and pages and updates and newsletters calling for readers, subscribers, contributors, here you are.
Together, you’re not a chatty bunch and I appreciate that.
The big blog rule of engagement is trolling for comments and answering each and every one with a thoughtful and clear response.
We’ve all got better things to do than jack around on a blog. Most of us?
Not me, since I’m the blogger, but you. So get busy after I close out for the day.

A Different Kind Of Blog

I think of boomerpdx as a lighthouse, a guide in the fog, a warning about going aground on a sandbank.
Don’t do that.
You might get stuck and spend the rest of your time made fun of for being a bad sailor.
Captain Lawrence got the wrong wind on the Peter Iredale. It happens.
If you catch the wrong wind here you won’t crash. You’ll catch another burst the next day.
The only one crashing around here is me, but I’m not crashing any time soon, and neither are you.
We’ll just continue bumping along.

The key here, the goal I strive for, is leaving a record, a personal legacy, the sort of memory that will last the way William Faulkner  wanted to be remembered:

“He made the books and he died”

I wrote the blog posts and died. Then the blog posts died when the domain and hosting expired.
So far this hasn’t expired after years of neglect so there’s hope.

In The Vein Of . . .

If boomerpdx is the only blog you read, thank you.
It’s the only one I write, which explains the content.
For a look behind the curtain, I prep before each post by scrolling twitter and Facebook and Yahoo News until something blog worthy stops me in my tracks.
Have I seen the news today? Oh, boy. Have I ever. But it’s not what belongs here.
Instead of craigslist, a Huffington Post, and the rest of the accumulation industry, I run a tight ship, the USS Learn To Give A Shit.
Part of the learning process is dropping the tired persona you’ve picked up from whatever culture you identify with.
Instead, know your strengths and improve what you see as your weaknesses.
Do that and you become a better person; do it often enough on the page and you become a better writer.
That is my daily goal. It should be yours too.
Write the moment, the story, the episode, the vignette, and do it with a point of view.

PS:

Don’t be dull.

PSS:

And don’t be afraid to be dull. Sharp rewriting takes care of that.
Again, thank you for your time.
