WRITING TIME CHALLENGE TO PITY BOOMERPDX

Non-writers will never understand writing time, which I get.
Who sits down daily, or any time, to tap out sentence after sentence.
One day? Maybe. Once in a while? A few times a week? Sure, go entertain yourself.
But why get all weird and drag it on for, let me check, drag it on since 2012?
Now I need your help. This is an ask:
For this post I’m asking my readers to leave a comment if one post in the past fourteen years landed for you.
There are 5110 days in fourteen years; there are 3953 posts on boomerpdx, 3954 after this one.
If I posted every other day over this time there would be 2555, which is more than enough, just not here.
I’ve got momentum, motivation, and the big question everyday: Blogable, or not blogable.
As a curious person with enough education to know I’m not too well informed about everything, I write it out.
If you want an extra helping of ‘I’m so stupid’ go ahead and try it for a week. Hell, try it for a day.
My goal is to be a useful writer, not an ego writer, not an all-powerful writer behind a curtain.
I’m proud of what I’ve done here, but there is a writing time challenge: my wife is not a fan of my schedule.

Important Writing Time

Another writer, another baby boomer blogger, might post this picture and say it’s them at their writing desk.
Dear Reader, this is not me at my desk, although I do find myself on the edge of my seat like General Douglas MacArthur signing surrender documents on the Mighty Mo and ending the war in the Pacific, and therefore closing out WWII.
When in the act of writing I feel companionship with writers over the ages, from those with museums I’ve visited, to those I’ve never read.
How have they done it? By making the effort, and time, to get it down on paper, on a screen, and put it out in view of others.
This is where you come in.
Like social media accounts who ask their followers to chime in with a hello to show they’re engaged or else get dropped, I’m asking.
No, I’m not dropping anyone, not giving any prizes, just asking for a sign that someone is out there.
Will I show my wife the results? Of course.
Will I show her if there are no results, or will I gin up something to substitute for you and hope she falls for it?
Noooo, but I will make adjustments.
She’s tired of waiting to do things together while I noodle around here wasting time.
That’s her opinion, not mine, but she has a point.
She has a point?

As A Full Grown Man . . .

Who remembers this jewel?
I can relate. I’m a man. I’m seventy-one. No one tells me what to do? Let’s try that again.
I’m a long married man. My wife tells me what to do. Age has nothing to do with it.
Sometimes I do what’s asked, sometimes I put it off, sometimes I find a better way to do what’s asked without making her feel like she missed the point.
Now she wants to schedule my writing time for me and I need you to put the kibosh on that notion with a message.
My blog goal is to be regular like the sunrise and leave a warm glow for the day.
If that’s been your experience after reading a post on boomerpdx, a warm glow, leave a heads up.
Am I asking for your money? Asking you to show up somewhere? Or a moment long enough to give an ‘attaboy.’
The third choice is the right answer. But what kind of message?

How Dogs Communicate: PeeMail (Hey Karla)

Dogs do a little whittle and walk away.
Another dog comes along, sniffs around, and leaves their donation of peemail.
For long distance, they use the PeePole, or tree.
Writers use the same tactic, bloggers use the same approach, leaving markers along their way.
Sometimes it’s a book, a poem, a magazine article, something published that verifies their time spent.
We depend on not a PeePole, but other people like you.
If I don’t write this blog the way I do, I’ll need to do something else with the same rewards.
What are those rewards, if not money?
I feel rewarded by the calm and peace during writing time, the solitude and thoughts of uninterrupted time.
Sounds pretty good so far?
Some writers are famous for locking themselves in a cabin for weeks to the dismay of their loved ones.
Others lock the door in their home office.
Hemingway’s kids said he was unavailable in the mornings and over-available in the afternoons.
I’m none of that. J.D. Salinger was a weird-ass guy with a high opinion of his time and work with his latest young love interest worshipping and protecting the great man.
Nice work if you can get it, but if you want your work to stand on its own, so should you.

PS:

Boomerpdx stands on its own, but it needs some propping up at the moment.
This is a call to readers, not AI, not bots, but readers to make an impression on a writer.
It’s only me, only a blog, but I’m asking.

PSS:

Will I fawn and swoon at any response? Nooo.
Will you get anything in return? Nooooo.
So why bother? Because I’m asking you to bother.
Otherwise I’m cutting back on writing time for boomerpdx to focus on more lucrative writing projects and avenues.
I know what I’d do if I came across this post on another blog: I’d pity the fool who didn’t respond.
Don’t be a fool.
