DOG TIME IN DOG YEARS

Dog time started right on schedule. Sixteen years with precious Daisy the Wonder Dog, followed by four years of mourning, then this. Three years ago we signed up for another round of Dog World. I think she might be a keeper.

MARRIED MAN WALKABOUT

Married Man: My wife doesn’t like doing what I like doing so I’m taking a trip. Me: Sounds like fun. MM: Just me and my dog. Me: Even better. How long will you be gone? MM: Two to five years.

DOG TRAINING IS HUMAN TRAINING

Dog training starts with the dog. Then it’s you. But first the dog. Everyone learns new ways to communicate. No one says, “Stay.” About that dog:

LESSON LEARNED, BUT WHICH ONE? TRENDS

A lesson learned ought to last a lifetime. What has lasted a lifetime: riding a bike, tying shoes. What should last a lifetime: That one perfect haircut, true love, your dog. In most cases we adjust the timeline.

THE WESTERN WAY + + +

The western way shows a solitary figure on a journey of self-discovery. That was my goal when I started. Just me and the boys and a dog. John, Bill, Stu, and Ruby. I would encase the memory like high-silica ground water does to fallen logs buried in mud. Except my memory would take three weeks, […]

4100 MILES IN THREE WEEKS. WHAT I LEARNED:

e How it started. Wife: We could fly to Albuquerque and rent a car to see Monument Valley. Me: Or we could drive down and see what we miss from the air. Wife: You drive and I’ll meet you in Albuquerque. Me: Then I’m taking the dog with me. Wife: What?
