RETIREMENT TIME OPENS DOOR FOR THINGS AND STUFF

Everyone’s’ retirement time is unique, no one matches any other.
For some it’s a big party at work with a grand send-off, followed by more parties to celebrate that new freedom.
There’s that giant card where everyone you worked over the decades signs with the glee of a high school year book.
Or maybe you go on paid leave for two weeks before the call from security for a date to pick up your box of stuff in the parking garage.
Either way, there’s the door to retirement time and you’re walking through it.
Then what?
First, take a good look around.
See the clutter, see the collections, see the crap? Embrace it brothers and sisters, it’s part of your life.
Sift through it until you get down to something that speaks to you.
Like what?

Look, A Sewing Machine

Nothing says ‘let’s go’ like a sewing machine and thread and needles on a desk.
All that’s missing is you?
Yes, you, and something to cut and sew.

Is That A Box Of Material

Yes, it is a box of fabric all folded and stored in a stable temperature away from infestations of critters who love to nest in wool tweedy stuff.
You can make anything you can imagine if that’s how you roll.
If you see an old guy walking around in a three-armed sweater, you’ll know why.
What if it’s not enough?
Then what?

Look, A Case Of Art Paint Goo

Nothing says, ‘let’s go’ in retirement time than a chest of paint in tubes.
Squeeze it out on knife like toothpaste on a toothbrush and wipe it on something.
But what to wipe it on?

What’s This? Art Boards And Frames

Wipe, smear, coat, and cover these surfaces, then hang them on the wall.
You can create anything your imagination can come up with.
Make a design, print it on cloth, and sew it into something interesting.
Will it be perfect? If you wanted perfection you’d go to Nordstroms.
What if it’s not enough? Then what?
Find a guitar player singing a quiet song and sing along.

It’s a big bonus if a big dog comes with the package.

PS:

It’s nothing new for some baby boomers, baby boomer bloggers, textile artists, and painters, but the best part of retirement time is finding out what’s next, and doing it, and sharing it.
