RED FLAG FOR GUN ENTHUSIASTS

RED FLAG

The red flag comes out for bad behavior.

We either flag ourselves, or see others wave it at us.

Either way, it’s a warning to change, or face consequences.

Pulling a red flag is the first step

I’m flagging responsible gun owners for not policing up their group.

They are the weight that will tip the scales of better gun laws in places like Indiana.

Who Can’t Possess a Gun?

Generally, people in Indiana are legally barred from possessing a handgun for reasons such as having a felony conviction or having a dangerous mental illness.

Those in the following categories also legally aren’t permitted to carry a handgun under state law, according to Indiana Senate Republicans.

  • Convicted of a federal or state offense punishable by a term of imprisonment exceeding one year
  • Fugitive from justice
  • Convicted of a crime of domestic violence, domestic battery or criminal stalking
  • Restrained by an order of protection
  • Under indictment
  • Adjudicated dangerous or mental defective
  • Committed to a mental institution
  • Dishonorably discharged from military service or the National Guard
  • Less than 18 years of age
  • A person who renounces the person’s United States citizenship in the manner described in 8 U.S.C. 1481

Who Can Own A Gun

Practically speaking, if you don’t get caught with a gun in your pocket, and you’re on the red flag list for gun possession, you’re still walking around.

With a gun in your pocket.

Maybe two guns in your pocket.

A sharp Midwesterner noted that strict gun laws in Chicago don’t prohibit Indiana gun mules from walking across a bridge.

What Is Constitutional Carry?

RED FLAG

Check your pocket constitution for confirmation:

When a state does not prohibit individuals who can legally possess a firearm from carrying handguns it is called constitutional carry. When a state allows constitutional carry but individuals must meet certain qualifications to legally carry, it is referred to as permitless carry. For instance, Tennessee does not allow an individual to carry without a permit if he or she has received a DUI in the last five years or two or more in the last 10 years.

I remember driving out of Knoxville to North Carolina. The highway signs near the border reminded impulse buyers to pick up some guns and moonshine before leaving.

They make better sense now that I know more about Tennessee gun law.

So those are the ‘carry a heater because why not’ states, the “If the by God law says I can carry a pocket gun, then I’m going to,” states.

The NRA map shows a ‘milestone’ or a tombstone. Half the country is, “Permit? We don’t need no stinking permit.”

Along with, “What’s that over there?”

“I don’t know. Shoot at it and see if it moves.”

Another National Rifle Association milestone has been about how much it’s paid politicians.

This map shows yet another red flag milestone

RED FLAG

It’s kind of hard to see so zoom in.

It shows the states ranked in education achievement. I say educational achievement because I belief that’s just what it is, an achievement.

This coming from a college graduate who started in the 70’s and finished in the 90’s.

My achievement was a four year history degree after three colleges. It all added up.

More than that, I finished what I’d started and using the momentum to call out low achieving states.

The thing that gets me pumped up in life is the collective effort to do better.

It comes with a downside, the shock that so many in low achieving states keep electing people who ‘love the under-educated.’

If we can’t keep predatory politicians out of the hot button henhouse, do we need everyone accessorized with a pocket gun?

Red flag, or no red flag?
