PORTLAND PARK BLOCKS IN DECEMBER WITH DOG

The Portland Park Blocks, the south side, deserves a good look this time of year.

Call it a learning moment, my dog did.

Who’s a good girl.

We started at Portland State University to see what the youths were up to.

Dog: Hey, fellow students.

Me: You’re not a student, you’re a dog.

Dog: A dog in training, if you forgot.

Me: I haven’t.

Dog: So give me some of that educational vibe you always talk about.

Me: Like what?

Dog: Yeah, this is more like it. Who doesn’t love a student union.

Me: Pets aren’t allowed. The rules say:

Pets are generally prohibited indoors on the PSU campus, except in University Housing,
where fish and cats are sometimes permitted as pets. For more information on fish and
cats in University Housing, please refer to the PSU Housing Handbook.

Dog: What do the rules say about this?

Me: Let’s move along.

Dog: Oh, I’m moving just fine. Let the learning begin.

History And Art Face-off On The South Park Blocks

Me: Have I told you about the Oregon Historical Society?

Dog: Only a thousand times.

Me: It’s my favorite museum in the world.

Dog: I know.

Me: You don’t know about the Portland Art Museum.

Dog: You don’t know.

Me: We’re lucky to have so many cultural institutions in one spot.

Dog: Smells like the stoners like it too.

Me: What?

Dog: Take good sniff.

Me: I don’t smell anything.

Dog: Oh, come on. You can’t smell weed burning.

Me: I’m sorry I don’t have a dog nose. Oh, there it is.

Dog: So I can tour the history museum, then pass through a wall of smoke and tour the art museum.

Me: Yes, but you’re a dog.

Dog: So why don’t you try it and tell me how it goes.

Me: Because we’re going home.

Dog: But I’m just getting started.

Me: We’ll come back.

Dog: You always say that.

Me: Who’s a good girl.

Dog; Not me, but let’s hope things get better.
