One Way:
You decide to make something by following a plan and getting the pieces organized.
After reading up, practicing, and seeing progress, you get started and go until it’s done.
That’s one way.
Then there’s the other way.
Or Another:
You see something, want it, can’t get it, then whine about how it was taken without making any effort.
One Way:
You rent a small studio apartment, fall in love, and move to a bigger one bedroom apartment, then a three bedroom apartment, before finding a house.
Or Another:
You live in a big house with a partner who says things like, “Do you really think you’d be happy living in a small studio apartment?
If you’re with the right people you know which way to go.
They count on you, depend on you, and copy what you do.
If that’s you, show your best side.
Explain how ‘overnight sensation’ are often the result of long years of toil to create their sensational.
AC/DC explained it with:
Ridin’ down the highway
Goin’ to a show
Stoppin’ on the byways
Playin’ rock ‘n’ roll
Gettin’ robbed, gettin’ stoned
Gettin’ beat up, broken boned
Getting had, getting took
I tell you folks, it’s harder than it looks
Hotel, motel
Make you want to cry
Ladies do the hard sell
Know the reason why
Gettin’ old, gettin’ gray
Gettin’ ripped off, underpaid
Gettin’ sold, second-hand
That’s how it goes, playin’ in a band
It’s A Long Way To The Top, But
One Way:
You’ve got a vision and stay true to it.
Or Another:
You explain your vision to someone who tells you to grow up and join the real world, that’s there’s no room for dreamers.
One Way:
You see the life you enjoy slowly eroding away, but keep some of it no matter the hardship.
Or Another:
Someone else picks up the pieces of your shattered dreams and has success with them.
Too often we see something that looks easy, looks simple, and try and copy it.
How hard can it be with something simple and easy?
Say you’re watching a gaggle of skinny guys run circles on a track and think, ‘come on, what’s the big deal?’
But you’ve never run a lap, trained to run a lap, but it’s only running.
How hard can it be?
The only true way of finding out is taking a lap, maybe run a mile.
The guys on TV are setting world records.
You walk it out in twenty minutes.
To improve, you need to keep going and not let up if that’s your dream.
If you don’t care one way, or the other, find a new sport to compare to the shape you’re in.
Ragging on running won’t work once you post your best time.
Let’s Review
Psychiatric Medical Care says:
Empathy is shown in how much compassion and understanding we can give to another.
Sympathy is more of a feeling of pity for another.
Empathy is our ability to understand how someone feels while sympathy is our relief in not having the same problems.
You’ve had both feelings, I’m sure.
Whether those are the words you use, or not, you’ve felt something.
When I was a kid, Joe Namath was a role model with his white shoes.
Every football player who wanted to improve their game needed white shoes.
Joe was also known as a lady’s man with a bad knee.
How many fans would have given him their knee if they could?
As they always do, the years passed, Joe got old, got hurt, and faded from public view.
Now he does commercials aimed at the fan base his age for medicare, hearing aids, and he looks different.
We all look different than we did in 1970.
Do you have feelings?
You should. They’ll getcha.
