NEW YEARS DAY WITH OREGON DUCKS

My thanks go to the Oregon Ducks on New Years Day.
Because of this college football team I watched three games in a row.
With my wife.
First, we talked:

Her: When is this game over.
Me: Just started. It’s the first one.
Her. There’s three today? What was last night?
Me: We’re in the Elite Eight. That was the first of four.
Her: Miami beat Ohio State.
Me: THE Ohio State.
Her: That Ohio State.
Me: Miami, where the old Duck coach left for, did it with Georgia’s old quarterback.
Her: Who will they play next.
Me: The winner of Georgia and Mississippi, Ole Miss.
Her: Ole Miss. And people make fun of the Ducks.
Me: If the Ducks win they play the winner of Indiana and Alabama.
Her: In the quarterfinals.
Me: That’s right.
Her: The Final Four.
Me: I think you’re getting it.

Her: GO DUUUUUCKS.

Me: OOOOOOOOO.

Later In The Day

Me: They’re going to play again. I can’t believe it.
Her: Indiana or Alabama?
Me: Indiana is #1 with the Heisman Trophy winner.
Her: Like Oregon with Mariota when they played Cheater State and lost.
Me: Yes, but better. Their guy is everything he’s supposed to be. And they already beat us at Autzen.
Her: Alabama will knock them off.
Me: It’s Alabama. They knock everyone off.
Her: Always Alabama.

Me: ROLL TIDE.

Her: LET’S FUCKING GO.

Early Evening, Same Day

Me: Now we know.
Her: Oregon and Indiana, Miami and Georgia.
Me: Or Ole Miss.
Her: How did Indiana get so good.
Me: It’s the coach. Same guy who used to coach James Madison. He came to Indiana after a famous alum decided to get behind modern college football and the transfer portal. Mark Cuban.

Indiana needed to put new turf in Memorial Stadium, it finished a weight room project to give football its own weight room, added new suites and revamped the football offices.
The program also retained both coordinators and strength coach from last year’s team. It was able to retain some of the team’s best players from last season, including receivers Elijah Sarratt and Omar Cooper as well as All-Big Ten defenders at each level in Mikail Kamara, Aiden Fisher and D’Angelo Ponds, each of whom came over with Cignetti from James Madison.
They also added key pieces to this year’s team form the transfer portal, including running back Roman Hemby, center Pat Coogan, tackle Kahlil Benson and defensive tackle Hosea Wheeler.
But the crown jewel is quarterback Fernando Mendoza, at a cost north of $2 million according to sources.

Her: Alabama got stomped.
Me: Hard to imagine, but it was an ass kicking.
Her: Indiana.
Me: Yep. In Georgia. So it’s Oregon to Florida, then back to Eugene, then off to Georgia.
Her: Who’s playing now?
Me: Georgia and Ole Miss.
Her: Where?
Me: New Orleans.
Her: So the Ducks have to fly halfway around the world for two games against teams all from the same neighborhood.
Me: They say it just means more down there.
Her: It means more here too.

PS: OOOOOOOOOOOOO

PSS: GO DUCKS
