ADRENALINE DUMP? EMT SAYS, “IT’S A REAL THING”

I’ve never heard of an adrenaline dump in this context:
After an emergency situation you feel a need GO.
An urgent need, but it’s during an emergency.
If you’re wondering, ‘But Blogger D, what’s the big emergency?’
I’ll paint the picture:

It’s nine o’clock at night, dark, and you’re driving a two lane, twenty-five mile on hour, suburban through-road.
All of the side streets have stop signs on the through-road.
One moment you’re rolling along, the next you’re surrounded by three ambulances, a fire truck, and two police cruisers.
Now you’re about to add to the emergency moment with one of your own.

An Adrenaline Dump?

What is it about stressful moments that produces an overwhelming urge to GO?
I asked one of the EMTs if they had a toilet in their rig.
“No, but we’ve got a bucket. It’s very uncomfortable. An adrenaline dump is a real thing.”
Uncomfortable? Hmmm.
‘What would be more uncomfortable, a pant leg of poo, dropping a deuce in someone’s yard, or a bucket?’ I wondered.
As the emergency moments faded, I asked a cop about a public restroom nearby.
He scanned his phone and found a map of bathrooms across the metro-area.
He’d had this request before?
And stop with the donut shop stuff. This guy was a strapper.

Police Work On Adrenalin Dump

Cop: I can take you, but I can’t bring you back. You look in good shape.
I told my wife I was taking a ride and hopped in the back of the cruiser.
He reminded me I’d have to ride in back to make it official.
We pull up to a business and both of us go inside.
If anyone had been looking out they would have seen a policeman opening the door for some lug getting out the back of a police SUV.
Not the sort of customer you’d roll out the red carpet for.
With the cop vouching for me, he turned me over to the manager who walked me back to the dressing room and monitored my bathroom activities.
With the cop gone I walked a dark road in dark clothes. My wife called just before I got there.
Now that we could gather our wits instead of focusing on my sphincter, we made a few calls. (Hey Charlie)

The most important thing I saw was communication and compassion at work.
No vile accusations, no violence, just trust in the social compact to come through:

A Social Compact is an implicit agreement between the Government and the people on the roles and responsibilities each plays, so that together they can shape the growth of society in both the present and the future.

A large group of first responders gathered, did their jobs politely and competently, and left.
Never was heard a disturbing word.
Any society that includes agencies ready to ride to the rescue is my kind of society.
People often think of a bigger societal picture painted for them, then hear they have no place in that picture.
But take it down to a street level picture and you have a situation?
Oh, now you’re in it, now you see taxes at work.
When it’s not infrastructure, but your structure, and you’re taken care of, it’s a beautiful picture.
It all comes down to walking that dark road after delivering an adrenalin dump properly.
One less problem solved, one less soiled memory.
That’s something to work for.
Vote Biden.
