HIGHER EDUCATION MORE AFFORDABLE OVERSEAS?

Higher education has never been more affordable according to the spam on boomerpdx.
My special knowledge spam comes with a twist of learning.
I knew writing about college would sink in somewhere, just not here:

Мы готовы предложить дипломы любой профессии по доступным ценам. Мы предлагаем документы ВУЗов, которые находятся на территории всей Российской Федерации. Документы выпускаются на бумаге высшего качества. Это позволяет делать государственные дипломы, которые невозможно отличить от оригиналов.

Translates on Google Translate Russian to English as:

We are ready to offer diplomas of any profession at affordable prices. We offer documents from universities located throughout the Russian Federation. The documents are issued on the highest quality paper. This allows us to make state diplomas that are indistinguishable from the originals.

In other words, call me Dr. Gillaspie.
But there’s more:

Заказать диплом института по доступной цене возможно, обратившись к проверенной специализированной фирме. Приобрести документ ВУЗа вы имеете возможность у нас.
It is possible to order an institute diploma at an affordable price by contacting a proven specialized company. You can purchase a university document from us.

This one might be just the ticket:
Мы предлагаем выгодно приобрести диплом, который выполнен на бланке ГОЗНАКа и заверен мокрыми печатями, штампами, подписями должностных лиц. Данный документ способен пройти лубую проверку, даже при использовании специальных приборов.
We offer to buy a diploma at a good price, which is made on the GOZNAK form and certified with wet seals, stamps, signatures of officials. This document can pass any check, even with the use of special devices.

Where’s My Higher Education Graduation Gown And Colors

After all of the time I spent in college, from 1973 to 1991, on and off, then on again, off again, and the kick at the end, I now learn  I could have ordered a degree on the right paper with the right seals and all?
It leaves me with one question: who does this?
Maybe my sense of forgery, fraud, and deceit are not tuned to the right wavelength, the right frequency, the right channel?
How can someone present themselves with a forged college degree?
I’d be worried anyone would find out, unless I ordered one just to hang on my wall.
Call it a legacy move, so when I die and someone sorts through my stuff and sees three masters degrees and two doctorates from Russia I’ll be the someone I always wanted to be.
“He’s smarter than he looked,” would be on my gravestone.

After all of the time I spent avoiding college, then going all in, I’ve run across more than a few scholars in their own minds.
One man waxed on and on about his precious home town, the jewel of his youth, the golden memories he so often reflects on.
This was before he said he grew up in Coos Bay.
Another man failed students because they couldn’t understand guest lectures speaking in unintelligible English.
These are the people I think of when I see fake degrees offered in spam.
Were they real teachers? I didn’t check, but did hope the college that hired them put them through the wringer.
It’s a privilege to stand in front of a group and speak.
I know this because of the high number of times I spoke to teams during my successful coaching career.
Teams and parents got an earful during recreational league seasons.
They want to know you’re the right guy, I wanted to know if any of them would be a problem.
I told the groups of parents and kids that their kids would be better athletes, better students, and better kids.
At the first team-only meeting I reminded the kids not to embarrass their coach by being worse athletes, worse students, and worse kids.
They seemed to like the challenge.

Drawing The Line On Higher Education

When I think of brand name colleges none of the schools I went to come to mind.
Others in the extended family called Princeton, West Point, and Columbia home.
We were more of a state college group than the others, where a degree is valued more than where it came from.
Do the work to show you can, not to drop names.
As an older life long learner, I’d like an advanced degree from a name brand institution, but not enough to fake it.
I feel I’m more in line with colleges dedicated to higher education and independent thought than those dedicated to the latest threat and whim of some jackasses who want to dabble in their business.
When someone shows up with a paper demanding access to the student records of a private institution, and get told to pound sand, shove it, and don’t come back, which is the sort of response most people applying to get into the college find in their mail, things get touched up.
The authority figure demanding access makes threats, the college answers with ‘beat it, loser’, and the rest of us cheer.
Or should cheer.
Ever since the internet became such an integral part of life we’ve been warned about getting hacked, identity theft, and data harvesting.
If a proven numbskull makes a request, it’s most likely a numbskull request.
Think of a proven liar making a promise. Do you take it to the bank?
In a battle of equals, we choose one or the other; in a battle of bully against an underdog, we pick the dog.
It sounds weird calling Harvard an underdog, but these are the times we live in.
If they can stand up for themselves in the face of economic adversity for staying true to their history, then they deserve our respect.

When you attend Harvard College, you become a part of the rich history of the nation’s oldest institution of higher learning. Founded in 1636, Harvard has changed dramatically over the centuries, but has always served as a haven for the world’s most ambitious scholars and leaders.

Failure means dealing with the uncertainty that the professionals you trust with your health, money, and welfare are not who you think they are.
No one wants that.
But they get it anyway.
It’s called higher education, not slipping off of a ten story parking structure.
