SCOREBOARD TRAINING FOR SPORTS FANS

Scoreboard training is a class to take just in case things don’t turn out the way you wanted.
At this point in  the college football season Oregon Duck fans have graduated.
You get that when you show up for the last game of the regular season undefeated.
Then they start over for the College Football Playoffs.
Way back in dinosaur times, before any kind of playoff, college teams played their schedule and went to a bowl game.
After the Sugar Bowl, the Orange Bowl, Cotton Bowl, and the granddaddy of them all, the Rose Bowl, sports writers voted for the national champions.

The first recognized AP national champions of college football in 1936 were the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers, coached by Bernie Bierman. Minnesota got through the schedule with a record of 7-1 and was awarded the championship.
There was no controversy at the time. It did not matter that the nation’s only undefeated team, Alabama, finished fourth. Minnesota was the champion, and that is how it was.

Oregon could be a national champion after today based on old traditions.

New Oregon Tradition For Scoreboard Training

I’d like this map better if each team the Ducks played had a little O in the state.
They played all of the scheduled games, finishing today with the Washington Huskies.
Like Oregon they’ve had a coaching carousel with their old coach moving on to Alabama after brief stints at Fresno State and Washington.
So Oregon isn’t the only former Pac12 school that hired a stepping stone coach who kicked them to the curb for their dream job.
Now we’ve got a guy who thinks Oregon is just right.
How will the former Georgia coordinator do when the fabled SEC shows up for their game?
I think he’s got a handle on it.

It Means More Here Too

This is how ABC pumps up the SEC.
I think it’s stupid and unsportsmanlike.
Could this be the year Oregon quiets that clean old fashioned hate? Whatever that might be.
What it sounds like is something passed down from generation to generation.
It’s not a problem until you think about other traditions passed down in the South, the Deep South, or whatever they want to call themselves.
Out here it’s the Northwest, plain old Northwest.
It was part of the Pac12 before TV money lured teams to a more lucrative landing in the Big10.
This could be the year of a good old fashioned stomp down on shitty traditions.
New traditions, starting today.
