HIPPIE HISTORY WITH FADING VISION

hippie history

There should be more hippie history posts on a blog called BoomerPdx?

I’ll talk to the manager.

I like hippie-era history for one reason: the shifting time frame, and what was/is a REAL hippie?

Like every responsible blogger in blog history I work with primary sources and include confirmation.

Take blog history for example: Primary source and confirmation in one screen shot.

This looks legit?

Any attempt at hippie history is more complicated.

However, what isn’t complicated is the response from ‘old hippies‘ looking back at their hippie days.

I’m an old hippie. We were right about the FBI and Secret Service.

I’m am too. It really irks me when younger people on here blame boomers for everything. Who do they think fought for Roe, marched against Viet Nam and for civil rights?

1960’s Vietnam war protests all over again, just a new topic. People in the streets. We forced change on DC, yes we did. And witht he women of America and the Geny XYZ we absolutely can do that again. Learn your history. We brought down Nixon, ended that war, changed the guard.

Not An Old Hippie History Buff?

I’m sixty-seven and sad to say I’ve aged out of claiming my hippie badge. Why? Too young.

But not everyone agrees.

Younger people than me make claims for being a hippie, or having been a hippie.

This is where hippie history gets complicated.

Is it a timeline?

A culture?

Cultured groovy timeline?

I believe there’s a strain of hippie in every American.

A hippie grandma with a hippie daughter and hippie granddaughter is a straight line of hippie history.

They may not even call themselves hippies, but that’s who they are in all of their organic and local living glory.

Call it multi-generational. Everyone had an uncle, an aunt, a brother, or sister who went ‘full hippie.’

What is that story?

Going ‘Full Hippie’

HIPPIE HISTORY

I’ve been watching Get Back carefully and it confirms my notion as a young teen: John Lennon was a hippie.

And not just a hippie, but a dirty, stinky looking, hippie. He looked like a Dead Head.

He’d gone from black leather jacket, to suits, to what looks like a weekly shower in dirty laundry. If that.

If that’s not hippie-cred, tell me what is. And don’t say it’s a normal English bathing schedule.

Did hippies back in the day criticize the Secret Service? I thought it was only the FBI and CIA.

Remember we were told how silly we sounded when we said “the man” was tracking our every move? Not so silly anymore.

I’m becoming convinced that old hippies were right about almost everything.

If hippie history aims to confirm everything hippie, then it’s not history.

Too many hippies were ignored with their feelings about ‘the man’ tracking them because they might be a little high.

Peace, love, and understanding and an opinion on domestic surveillance weren’t on the same stoner table then.

What is on the table now is a chance to show interest in the future.

Hippies were accused of seeking instant gratification, of living for the day, staying in the moment.

While those sentiments may sound selfish today, hippie history shows the Vietnam War was a major influence on making the most of your time . . . because you’re gonna get drafted.

If you feel like you need to do something positive for your community, vote.

Old hippies marching on strong hips and springy knees are a reminder to the rising generations. Mind your diet and stay engaged and you will move the country to a better place when you are old hippies.

Protests were fun back then. Well, a lot of them were. People on the ground were more organized.

Good Trouble.

  1. I agree that it’s difficult to claim hippiedom at 67–my age as well. One of my many regrets is that I wasn’t old enough to attend Woodstock. From my perspective, analysis, and worldview, Woodstock was the apex of American culture and contribution to the history of civilization–and I missed it.

But I learned the lessons and never wavered in my commitment to them. I have been universally opposed to having anyone’s boy be sent home in a box. Judy Blue Eyes is the purest voice that has ever lived. I have followed the White Rabbit whenever possible. And there has been a Bad Moon Rising ever since. Darling, please be home soon.

So I guess in retrospect, it may not have been necessary to have been a hippie to learn the lessons that hippies made available to teach us. It just all depends on what we’re open to learning.
