NATUROPATHIC PHYSICIANS KNOW NUTRITION FIRST

My wife shared a joke with me. She’s a naturopathic physician, Dr. Gillaspie. It had nothing to do with the old television show with young Dr. Kildare and his colleague Dr. Gillaspie.

“Early in our practices doctors from my class would talk about what it must be like as an RD, a real doctor,” she said.

Naturopathic physicians have come a long way since the early 1980’s when she started. No longer the odd doc out in the medical establishment, they are included on hospital staffs, prescribe a full pharmacy, and recognized on insurance panels.

Dr. Greenberg said avoid hospitals and doctors unless you have a serious accident. He must include serious illness. I can report from the cancer front that naturopathic physicians help.

If you are diagnosed with any cancer, include a naturopath from the start. Let the others, the chemo oncologist and radiation oncologist, know of your choices. If they agree with your choice, then they are the right doctors for you to proceed with.

Did my wife have an idea of healing the cancer that dropped on me? I suggested an alternative route to a cure. She told me about her friends in the naturopathic community who tried to cure the same cancer.

Since it didn’t work out to the best outcome, she pointed me straight to chemo-radiation treatment. Made sense to me, so I took her advice. She made even more sense during the recovery phase when rebuilding my immune system with focused nutrition helped turn the corner from ‘the nadir,’ or bottom of the treatment pit.

We talked about it the other night.

“Do ND’s always know more about nutrition than anything else?” I asked while eating fusilli pasta with a vegetarian sauce she made.

“Over thirty years in practice, I always start with the gut,” she said. “Nutrition, digestion, elimination, the refueling process needed to sustain the body.”

I’ve never tired of listening to her explain human biology. Decades of practice and thousands of patients inform her opinions.

“What about the major complaint, why a patient scheduled an appointment?” I asked.

“That’s part of the process, but I always start with the gut, not the symptoms,” she said.

One of the great benefits of having children with a naturopath wife? She started with their gut, too.

“Is this part of moving forward with your aesthetic medicine practice, with mole removal and your new office?” I asked.

“New patients come in for a specific reason now, but it’s still part of the conversation,” she said. “After my years of medical experience I like to help with overall health. I think they like it too.”

From yelp:
“For almost half my life, I was told that surgery to remove my large facial mole was not an option, due to the potential for scarring and nerve damage. But thanks to Dr. Elaine Gillaspie, that unsightly and annoying mole is gone for good. Dr. Gillaspie used an innovative device, called an Ellman Surgitron, that precisely and painlessly effaced my mole in a period of about 20 minutes. Two weeks later, only smooth, pink, healthy skin remains. Over time, the pink color will fade, and so will my memories of that unwanted mole. Thank you, Dr. Gillaspie, for providing this service. I couldn’t be happier!”

More than twenty years after starting the Portland Wellness Clinic, Dr. Gillaspie has moved her practice to Mountain Park Health Clinic, 11030 SW Capitol Hwy Ste 100, Portland, OR 97219.

Her results using the Ellman Surgitron are remarkable. Visit drmolepdx.com for visual confirmation.
