WHY HEART BREAKS NEVER BREAK EVEN FOR ANYONE

heart breaks

Like serious illness, heart breaks are best left for others, not you and I.

It’s just easier when it’s someone else. At a distance. The further the better.

That way you can learn from them in case it happens to you.

And it will. One way or the other.

Broken hearts land on everyone at least twice.

The first is the hardest to handle.

By The Script

I’m still alive but I’m barely breathing
Just prayed to a God that I don’t believe in
‘Cause I got time while she got freedom
‘Cause when a heart breaks, no, it don’t break even

You’re gonna feel abandoned, lost, wondering what you used to do before they showed up.

It’s a universal feeling, nothing special, except you’ll think it’s never happened to anyone else.

That’s how you know love is real when it’s over for one of you, but not the other.

From Boston to Seattle the clock drags, then stops.

Like your breath.

===

Her best days were some of my worst
She finally met a man that’s gonna put her first
While I’m wide awake she’s no trouble sleeping
‘Cause when a heart breaks no it don’t break even

Whether your heart breaks in South Lake Tahoe, or Beaverton, get used to it.

Every love song is your old love song.

Every new love song makes it worse.

You don’t need a translator to understand the anguish.

Her favorite places you made fun of? Her style you didn’t understand? Her friends who didn’t seem important?

Now they all matter more than you can take.

===

What am I gonna do when the best part of me was always you?
And what am I supposed to say when I’m all choked up and you’re OK?
I’m falling to pieces, yeah,
I’m falling to pieces, yeah,
I’m falling to pieces
(One still in love while the other one’s leaving)
I’m falling to pieces
(‘Cause when a heart breaks no it don’t break even)

Pieces of your heart scatter across the landscape like a space shuttle re-entry gone catastrophically wrong.

You’re falling to pieces like every democrat and republican watching the Russian puppet master pull strings.

What do they say about this in New York City? In Junction City?

It’s a common language of distress.

If you give America the same designation as a ship, as in ship of state, and she’s drifting away, falling to pieces, nothing looks even.

===

They say bad things happen for a reason
But no wise words gonna stop the bleeding
‘Cause she’s moved on while I’m still grieving
And when a heart breaks no it don’t break even, even… no

Wise words never stop the bleeding, but relax, you won’t bleed out. Not right away.

Besides, you didn’t put your sweetheart first. Where were they in the lineup if not first?

Go ahead and pray to a God you don’t believe in. Just keep it to yourself.

Every decent Christmas / Easter Christian knows you don’t have to believe in God to know she believes in you.

Now straighten the hell up and show a broken heart won’t ruin your day. It will, but why mope around. Give it a week, a month, and get your act right.

What am I supposed to do when the best part of me was always you?
And what am I supposed to say when I’m all choked up and you’re OK?
I’m falling to pieces, yeah,
I’m falling to pieces

Every trauma has a different mother and father, but the offspring is common.

Misery.

Some people deal with it by making others miserable. There’s an isolation on that track.

Others go into a spiral of self-review to make sure it can’t happen again.

Still others rebound and turn misery into a lifestyle.

Perpetual sadness is the chick-gitter, the dude magnet, to attract damage.

Is damage control what you need everyday? Between Portland and Los Angeles there’s enough damaged people in and out of therapy to make a movie.

Sleepless In North Bend?

Oh, you got his heart and my heart and none of the pain
You took your suitcase, I took the blame.
Now I’m tryna make sense of what little remains, ooh
‘Cause you left me with no love and honour to my name.

This is the best part, none of the pain.

Face it, she’s better at hiding it, you’re better at assuming blame.

Good for you, but it doesn’t make either true.

One heart never breaks alone, especially for the one leaving with their suitcase.

Shack-up life never works that way, especially down the line when you explain how many people you lived with. And how you broke up.

Before settling down with The One, or giving up and going all in on the monk lifestyle, get your story straight, then recover lost honor.

By the way, it’s not your honor that’s lost, it’s you.

===

I’m still alive but I’m barely breathing
Just prayed to a God that I don’t believe in
‘Cause I got time while she got freedom
‘Cause when a heart breaks, no, it don’t break…
No, it don’t break
No, it don’t break even

Kris Kristofferson explained freedom.

It’s just another word for nothing left to lose.

From Kentucky to California, Baton Rouge to Salinas, through all kinds of weather, Bobby McGee stood by her man.

And that was good enough? Hell, no.

Good enough for one is never good enough for the other. That’s what you discover at the end, hidden feelings.

Everything is fine for you until they drop that bomb on the way out.

Then is crying time, whining time, and no one cares enough to hand you a tissue, or even listen.

What am I supposed to do when the best part of me was always you?
And what am I supposed to say when I’m all choked up and you’re OK?
I’m falling to pieces, yeah,
I’m falling to pieces

Did you live with someone in college and break up?

If you shared a pet rabbit, who got the rabbit?

Living together in your twenties leaves time to figure things out, like living together might not work for both of you.

Millennials living together had better heed the warning: Baby Boomers plowed that field.

What are you supposed to do?

Declare your intentions and then listen. If you hear something that makes sense in return, give them credit.

And stop acting like you don’t know what to do.

Collect all of your loose pieces, all the extra stuff the shattered, and work the puzzle.

Yes, it sucks to spend the time on something you’d rather ignore, but it’ll make you a better person.

Your true love will thank you for the effort.
