TALKING DOWN TO SOMEONE? WHY

How can you tell when someone is talking down to you?
It might be the clarification questions you ask that gets them annoyed to the point of explaining everything a few times, very slowly.
Or it might their regular way of communicating.
Which leads to more questions, like, “Why be a jerk?
What is it about rich guys who feel the need to talk down to everyone?
For them everything is obvious, simple, easily understood. Everyone else is confused.
If their bullshit doesn’t stick to the wall they can write a check and make it obvious, simple, and understandable.
Which highlights the question: How is it possible to beat forty scholars with one fact?
Because learned people are open to learning more.
You can lay forty facts before an idiot with their brain locked down on what they found from ‘their own research.’
It could a forty thousand facts and they won’t budge.
That’s because they believe.
They believe the hogwash they heard from a variety show of nitwits parading as a news source.
Even better, they believe the nonsense spewed by the idol the variety show props up, or used to prop up.
Maybe they’re not skeptical enough, don’t know what skeptical means, or don’t care about anything other than what fits in their narrow scope of possibilities.

Narrow Scope Of Possibilities?

I was born one generation away from the time tested adage of, “The only people who stay in school past eighth grade are those afraid of work.”
That’s what my Dad grew up with, managed to escape from, get a college degree, and live a better life with his wife and kids.
My Mom was the smart one. She skipped grades, graduated at sixteen, and went to a year of college before joining the workforce.
All along we were exposed to eduction and learning experiences.
My Mom insisted on keeping a piano in the house ‘just in case.’
Just in case one of her kids was a prodigy, or even showed a fleeting interest, the piano was ready.
No one ever played it except for guests. No lessons, no interest, no symphony.
And no talking down. It was play the piano, or don’t play the piano.
Instead of warnings about the lack of music in young kids, they popped the Hi-Fi and played Andy Williams and Mitch Miller.
That’s when my Dad tried adding a big sweater and smoking a pipe to replace sweatshirts and cigarettes.
He was a college boy, after all.
Was education the secret to his freedom from living a life of working in the woods like everyone he knew growing up?
Since he was raised in a logging camp, a company town, everyone worked in the woods.
Or maybe he figured out that anything would be better?
Somehow he made the grade, instilled education as a goal, and three out of four of his kids got the sheepskin.
And yet ignorance is a continuing issue.
That happens with people attach themselves to scummy people with enough money to make them appealing.
There’s an old joke between rich people and smart people: “If you’re so smart, why aren’t you rich?”
Pretty funny, until the rich guys start dealing in false promises, intentionally false information, and outright lies.
A shit-talking rich guy with a megaphone reaching far and wide can harvest quite a haul of stupids.
This is where the folks indoctrinated in the beliefs system that wealthy people are favored ‘By God’ chimes in.
They and their neighbors, their towns, their counties and states, throw in with whatever the rich guys say because on Sunday the preacher told them to.
Would better eduction protect people from a shit-talking rich guy whose shit-talk is repeated in church, picked up on the variety shows disguised as news, and passed as fact?
Instead of a ‘news cycle’ it’s a ‘shit-talk’ cycle and everyone is invited.

Pay Attention To Big Al

Maybe the world will more likely be destroyed by scientists making discoveries that lead to weapons big enough to destroy the world?
Or maybe Big Al is talking about his homeland, Germany, where government policies nearly destroyed everything.
Al did more than lab work. He had a grip on what he and others had unleashed.
All he is asking for is that good men and women do not let evil pass as normal.
WWII in his homeland, the country he first saw, had to be a moral destroying event.
Who would guess a civilized nation, a leader in science and industry, would agree to the notion of concentration camps and forced labor, gas chambers, and ovens.
Do we have to agree that no one knew? That’s why no one did anything?

The greatest shock he experienced was the confrontation with “two rows of bodies stacked like cordwood,” a phrase that would become, for better or worse, an expression almost ritually verbalized when discussing the Nazi camps.
Murrow estimated there were 500 corpses piled there.
Realizing that some might disbelieve such revelations, Murrow pleaded with his listeners: ”I pray you to believe what I have said about Buchenwald. I have reported what I saw and heard but only part of it. For most of it I have no words.”

Leadership Arrives

Churchill knew what he had to do, and he did it.
I’ve got to say I’m disappointed to know that people today who know better are not pointing out a few things.
No matter how much you love your leader, they still might throw you in an oven.

Gleichschaltung was the process of the Nazi Party taking control over all aspects of Germany. It is otherwise known as coordination or Nazification. The process primarily took place between 1933-1934.
The Nazi’s started with the Civil Service , issuing the Act for the Restoration of the Professional Civil Service on the 7 April 1933. This act legalised removing anyone of non-Ayran descent from the civil service.
In the judicial system specifically, this act removed any judges that were deemed non-compliant with Nazi laws or principles. This act was reinforced by the German Civil Service code of 26 January 1937, which retired any judges or judicial official who would not intervene in cases and rule in favour of the Nazis.
The People’s Court, a court created by the Nazis in April 1934 with judges chosen specifically for their Nazi beliefs, replaced the Supreme Court. With these measures in place, the Nazification of the judicial system was complete.
Gleichschaltung was applied across every possible aspect of government policy.

Talking down to people to assure them everything is fine is a red flag.
What will happen when people finally learn that the Affordable Care Act is the same as Obamacare?
What’s the plan when people learn that the factory upstream is polluting water downstream, their water?
It’s all fun and games until someone realizes, ‘That fucker has been talking down to us this whole time.’
There is no office called ‘Shit-talker In Chief.’ No one voted for the chief shit-talker, but if they did . . .
