RELATIONSHIP REPORT CARDS ON BOOMERPDX

Relationship report cards should always be filled out by a third party. We already know how the principal partners grade: “It wasn’t me, it was them.” Sound like an A grade to you? But it’s never that easy. Nor should it be. Who is a qualified third party?

LEAVING PORTLAND IN 1974

Leaving Portland in 1974 was quite memorable. Memorable departures usually have a location in mind. I was headed to Fort Ord, California and the All-Volunteer Army on September 6, 1974. What was I thinking?

PORTLAND DIRT IS JUST LIKE YOUR DIRTY TOWN

To know Portland Oregon you better like dirt. I’m not talking about pioneering farmers, either. It started with the first native canoe stopping on the Willamette. Paddling against the current takes as much energy now as it did then, so if you’re into historical reenactment you’d better be in shape.

VISITING PORTLAND CHECKLIST

Visiting Portland? Google it and to see how things look before making plans. Travelportland.com comes in as the ‘official city guide.’ It shows food, books, and Portland activities.  Looks like a nice place, but what will the updates say after the next demonstration? Keep looking.

SEATTLE STYLE: WHERE THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST BEGINS

Seattle style is a picture artists could paint and it wouldn’t look like Portland. But the comparisons never end. Get on the whine line and listen. Seattle traffic, Seattle housing, Seattle expansion. Look down the road and hear the same thing about Portland traffic, Portland housing, Portland expansion.

STUDENT LOANS FROM THE 70’S

Student loans start with a desire to learn, to go to college, to do something. Was it different in the 70’s? The smart academic advice on the street then was, Drop out, Turn on, Tune in. Given by a PhD.
