GIVING GOOD ADVICE, OR . . . ?

Who reads blogs for good advice?
If you do, is there any follow through?
Asking what to do means there might be a problem.
The biggest problem is when you’re the only one who sees the problem.

OFF THE HOOK IN GOLDEN YEARS?

As the golden years of retirement stretch out before you there are a few things to keep in mind.
Probably more than ten line items, but this is a start.
You don’t have to agree with any of them, but pick and choose in any order.
I’ll start:

END PRODUCT IS WHAT PEOPLE CARE ABOUT, NOT PRACTICE

‘End Product’ is another way of saying, “What have you done lately?”
We pay to go to concerts, games, and races.
We don’t pay to go to practice rooms, weight rooms, or interval track training, the stuff done before the end product.
Buy a ticket for an event and you expect a competent performance?
Sounds reasonable to me.

HISTORICAL ACCURACY? IMPORTANT, OR NOT

I’m a fan of historical accuracy, of a story that stands up to scrutiny not opinion,
My feeling is that the people involved in historical events deserve the decency of applied history.
How to apply history?
It’s all about the sources.

Doc: Are you sitting down?
Me: Yes. (I was in the bathroom.)
Doc: The tests came back. You have cancer.
Me: That’s not good.

CANCER SURVIVOR ESSAY STRUGGLE

Stories about a cancer survivor are an inspiration to all cancer survivors. Even a cancer survivor essay about the trauma of being a cancer survivor holds important hope.   Pam Parker gets into it with a cancer survivor story in the Chicago Tribune.   It’s not pretty and sweet and all dolled up […]

BICYCLE DAY FOLLOWED BY 420? CALL A DOCTOR, STAT

Call a doctor and ask about the medical qualities of acid and weed. Maybe your doc has some non-medical experience to share, but probably won’t.   If your medical provider isn’t in the loop, boomerpdx will shine some light. Neck Cancer: Part of Oral, Head and Neck Cancer

OHNC, for oral, head and neck cancer sounds more like a government agency, as in “let’s meet at the OHNC building and go from there.”   Except no one wants to go anywhere near OHNC any time. Speaking from direct experience, No One Wants To Go There. Any Time.   But here we are. […]

Millennial History Break: WWII-era

It’s been a long time since history delivered WWII. A long time to learn what happened, too.   But not all are interested in the lessons of WWII, particularly the death camps where those deemed undesirable by the German authorities were warehoused until further notice.   Further notice was death for six million […]

“Alexander Lloyd was 23 when a man wielding a Swiss Army Knife plunged the blade into him seven times – including once through the heart. “Bakri Siraj-Eldin, a retired petrol industry scientist from Cambridge, received 10 years for wounding Alexander Lloyd with intent, seven-and-a-half years […]

SHARING EARTH WITH LIVING THINGS, EVEN THE CREEPY ONES

“Quick, where’s my camera?” he said. “What?” she said. “Birds.” “Camera? Here it is.” “These birds are huge. Look at that formation.” “What are they?” “Birds. Really big birds. What are they?” “I don’t know.” “You don’t know these birds? Since when would you even admit it?”

MEMORY CUE, EVIDENCE FROM ANOTHER LIFETIME

How long ago was 1979?   The Brooklyn Union Gas Company makes the call.   How often do you run across things, not your things, that remind you of a different life?   Then it’s your stuff and you don’t remember.

INSULTING ENVIRONMENT CLOSES ROADS, MINDS

Keep an open mind to insulting environment. Global warming, from either man-made pollution, or natural cycle of atmospheric anomalies and melting ice-caps, is still about the environment. You can’t hide from that old environment. It’s all over the place; we all share that one. And we’ll share the insulting environment after it changes. Whether […]
