OREGON DUCKS, #1 COLLEGE FOOTBALL, BUT . . . ?

The Oregon Ducks show no signs of slowing down.
They’re not migrating, not flying south for the winter, not going anywhere.
No problems in Duck-land?
Sports writers get stuck on their own version of tradition, their home state bias, their favorite coach or quarterback.
What’s that got to do with the #1 Oregon Ducks football team?
Duck football is my version of tradition, my home state bias, my favorite coach and quarterback.
Every year they’re going to win it all; this year they’re going to win it all.
Most years, make that every year, they don’t win it all.
This year? Eleven weeks in? They’re going to win it all.
They deserve their flowers every week at #1.
But, where are the flowers?
They’re growing in the SEC, in Indiana.

Flowers For ESPN College Football

As a state, Oregon is easy.
People wanted to live here so bad that they sold everything, loaded up a covered wagon, and set out from Missouri.
The road was called the Oregon Trail.
As a college football powerhouse, Oregon is a pariah on the all sports network.
Game Day came to Eugene with comments like, “This is way out there.”
An Oregon geographical hint: We’ve been here all along. Haven’t moved. You’re not lost.
Today the road to Oregon is I-80 and I-84 west.
The Oregon Trail has attracted such interest because it is the central feature of one of the largest mass migrations of people in American history.
Between 1840 and 1860, from 300,000 to 400,000 travelers used the 2,000-mile overland route to reach Willamette Valley, Puget Sound, Utah, and California destinations.

The road to #1 Oregon is too confusing to understand?

The #1 team in all of college football doesn’t make the google search front page.
It feels like the media is with the big boys of football while waiting for the Ducks to drift away.
Who are the Big Boys? Pick any team in the Southeastern Conference.
Except Mississippi State who is still waiting for their first win.
But ask some SEC honk how the Bulldogs would do against the Ducks?

Game To Watch: Oregon Ducks v Maryland Terrapins

Any game except Oregon v Maryland?
We have a betting pool when the family gathers to watch a Duck game.
It isn’t the point spread, it’s whether or not I’ll be asleep on the couch by the second quarter.
It’s usually a safe bet, but not when it’s the #1 Oregon Ducks against anyone.
You can’t sleep on Oregon.
The Football Gods don’t sleep on Oregon.
Look how the breaks of the game go and Oregon feels like a celestial favorite.
Will Oregon finish the season with their third  championship appearance?
Is this the year of finishing the job and christening Autzen as HOME OF THE CHAMPION UNIVERSITY OF OREGON DUCKS?
If it is, and the undefeated Ducks keep paddling, don’t look for the news on ESPN, or the SEC Network.
They’ve got a blind spot.
They can’t see greatness without USC.
Television broadcast money killed the Pac12 hoping USC would hold its nation-wide focus.
This far along they like anyone but the Ducks.
Indiana sits atop the Big10?
Heads up Hoosiers.
Those are Ducks coming your way, not Trojans.
