OHSU KNIGHT CANCER INSTITUTE FOR THE WIN

ohsu

OHSU stands for Oregon Health Science University.

The institution was founded in 1887 as the University of Oregon Medical Department and later became the University of Oregon Medical School.

Today, if you’re first up in Pre-Op, check in is 5:30 with a go time of 7:30

With 26 operating rooms all scheduled to start at the same time, it feels like a horse race with handlers/nurses, getting everyone into the starting gate for the bell.

And they’re off.

I’ve been in the building a few times, or more like ‘buildings.’

Getting around is like getting lost in a corn maze at first. Doing it in the dark morning is not a better deal.

But if being on time is important, this is the time.

Support Team Time For OHSU

I don’t care who you are, or who you think you are, want to be, or could have been, taking someone in there is a good time to keep quiet.

Though not locked down like a pressure cooker ready to blow, being a quiet companion is a rare and valuable thing.

If that sort or heartfelt companionship is what you need, don’t think of calling me.

Hospitals give me the heebee jeebies. I’m not saying I’ve been asked to leave, dismissed, for running my mouth. But I’m not saying I haven’t, either.

No one needs Mr. Distraction while they’re hooked up to a hospital gown with an outlet for a heater hose. That’s right, a gown that circulates warm air, hot air, or cool air.

You might want to add that to your Christmas shopping list?

Maybe OHSU has a catalogue?

The Difference Between A Hospital And An AirBnB

One is not a recreational destination, the other is.

Sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference if you listen to the voices around you.

There shouldn’t be too many voices around you at an AirBnB. Not so at OHSU.

“Can you tell me what you’ve come in for?”

“This time I’m in for a stent.”

“I see you’ve been here before.”

“I’ve had three aorta surgeries before now.”

That’s when I tuned out. Who has three aorta surgeries. I know of one aorta surgery and it was to replace an aorta.

Give me a broken heart any day of the week.

I wrote about Health Reconciliation and it’s more pertinent today than ever.

We get knocked down, but we get up again. Sound familiar?

Theme song of the day to sing along with:

I get knocked down, but I get up again
You are never gonna keep me down
I get knocked down, but I get up again
You are never gonna keep me down
I get knocked down, but I get up again
You are never gonna keep me down
I get knocked down, but I get up again
You are never gonna keep me down

Put it on repeat for the Big E and turn that shit up.
