MONDAY MEMORIES: WHERE TO START

Monday memories matter because why not start the week strong?
However, the matters of Monday to be solved require clear thinking.
So ignore that hangover, lack of sleep, the cold and rain.
Let’s go, but where?

First, put that weekend away.
Your good time isn’t walking through that door, until Friday night.
If then.

It Was A Good Weekend

Maybe you did something stupid and hurt yourself?
Well, that Monday memory will be walking through that door sooner than expected.
For reference, ask a baby boomer if they have any hint of chronic pain; ask how it started.
Did they play sports in high school? In college? Go ahead and ask.
You might hear, “I was the one they called the ‘generational talent.’
In eighth grade. It turned into, “The coach didn’t like me,” in high school.
That’s a chronic pain in the ass that never lets up.
It was the coach’s fault you didn’t make the NFL, or NBA, or the 24Hour rec team?
Or, maybe they were wild in their youth and skitched around on snow days?
Rode a bike over a jump?
Couldn’t stand and walk without tripping and falling?
The point is chronic pain often comes from an event.
Your shoulder popped out; a twisted knee; sprained an ankle.
The unlucky may have chronic pain from treatment on more malicious factors, like cancer.
The big boys in the audience have other issues added on.
Did my arches flatten out, my knees creak, and my back ache just because I gained weight over the holidays?
I’ll let you know when I drop that twenty just in time for summer and speedo weather.
If you spent the weekend chronically injures and medications you might be a boomer.
If you wear ignorance like stolen valor, you might be a boomer.
The weekend is in 2024, not 1974. Wake up.
And the rest of you? Get crackin’.

What Day Is It?

Whatever is on the depressing news, whatever cohort or demographic you want to shit-talk, get moving.
We’re all got a pile to move, so move it. Make some progress.
Start a book, build a fence, clean the gutters.
But first make a plan.
Make a plan to have the sort of kick-ass Monday you remember from your best days.
Can’t remember one? Then your best days are obviously ahead of you.
Do something you’ve always wanted to do on a Monday and if it works out, that’s your Monday Memory.
After that, the rest of the week will be easy. . . for some.

Chronically Disappointing Monday Memories

Remember the promises you heard growing up?

Work hard and you can have anything you want.
Hard work will take you anyplace you want to go.
Keep grinding and your day will come.

How’s it going so far? Just writing it down makes me want a nap.
Where I come from ‘hard work’ starts in the woods, the forest, with loggers.
Is there harder work to do?
If they’re lucky they don’t get crushed; if they’re unlucky they die.
I worked in a saw mill one summer, which is as close as I’ve been to hard work in the timber industry.
I didn’t find a worm on Mondays but if I did, it was about showing up. It’s not a real worm, but an attitude.
It’s the same attitude I start every day with and end over night with.
I put the bullshit to bed and start each day with less residual stink since there’s always plenty around to foul the air.
Call it mental health Monday memories to make new priorities for the long haul?

On The Other Hand .  .  . The Other Monday Memories

Maybe it was a hard weekend and Monday is too much?
So call in sick.
You don’t need to be an HR pro to know if people call in sick on a Monday, or Friday, get a three day weekend.
If they call in on both days, it’s a four day.
Sounds good to me, and if anyone wants a shorter work week?
These economic powerhouses have the work hours you need:
  1. Vanuatu: 24.7 hours
  2. Kiribati: 27.3 hours
  3. Mozambique: 28.6 hours
  4. Rwanda: 28.8 hours
  5. Austria: 29.5 hours

For me Monday memories get a kickstart. Like every day, it’s a #blogpost day.
Can’t be a writer if you don’t write.
What day is tomorrow?
#blogpost day.
Why not dedicate a day for spending as little time as possible on something you love?
Whatever it is, I predict ‘as little time as possible’ will be longer than you planned on.
See what I did there?
