MODERN BLOGGERS BY THE NUMBERS

FOR SALE: modern bloggers and their markets.

Go to any bookstore or library and get ready to be overwhelmed by the selections of the printed word.

From the looks of it people can’t stop writing, talking, talking about writing, writing about talking. And then there’s the hook.

The more you learn about the writer, the more you want to talk about them.

Unless they’re one of ‘those’ writers. The one with an agenda.

BoomerPdx has an agenda. I have an agenda.

Let’s talk about it.

Modern bloggers are marketers, no matter what else they call themselves, or what they’re selling. Maybe it’s a book, a movie, a movie script, a book proposal.

They are selling one thing above all others: Trust.

If you trust them, you continue reading. No trust, no reading.

How do modern bloggers build trust?

It all starts with a profile picture. People under forty have the face they were born with; people after forty have the face they’ve earned.

Then there’s the drag ass over 60 crowd, which is why BoomerPdx uses a profile picture of a hike. The message is clear: get the hell up and move. Save your quality of life with effort.

Has anyone looked at that image and jumped up for a walk? Dropped and pumped out twenty? Ten? Keep it in mind when you finish reading this post. Maybe just go outside for a few minutes?

Trust is what makes you believe you’re in the right place at the right time. Profile pictures build on that if there’s any doubt.

Serious bloggers build blogger trust by posting goofy looking profile pictures. There’s nothing like a bald man in black glasses making a funny face, an “are you talking to me” face.

Bald is big with this group, and they pull serious money. Could be time for a close trim for this blogger? No.

BoomerPdx aims for the heart strings without the usual interference. Interference? Blogger interference.

One of the lady bloggers I follow recently posted that it was common knowledge they were bi-sexual, like her readers weren’t paying attention if they hadn’t figured that out. This is after she listed her medical and mental conditions.

I felt sympathetic at first, a sympathetic blogger, then wondered what I was supposed to do with this extra knowledge. What I came up with was nothing. A writer, a blogger, stands and falls by their work.

By the numbers reported, some bloggers stand real tall. Best to leave it at that. The more you dig into their history, the shorter they get. Do that enough and you become a blogger skeptic. No one needs more of those.

Is BoomerPdx part of modern bloggers?

If you ask me, I say, “Yes, boomerpdx is part of modern bloggers.”

Then you may ask if you have to see what I see, do what I do, read what I read, go where I go.

And I say, “Stop.”

It’s not a contest, not a game of follow the leader. It is a game of engagement. Whether you lean left or right, identify male or female, straight or gay, do things worth doing and talk about it.

What would you change? Keep the same? Never do again? Plan on doing every day?

Whether you’re into it or not, you’re grounded in a shared reality. If you never say anything, it’s not sharing.

Who do you share stuff with? If the answer is no one, find someone, find something.

You might even start a blog.
