HYPE MAN FOR BOOMERPDX

writing

If my blog had a hype man it would sound like this:
DON’T WASTE ANOTHER SECOND BEFORE SIGNING UP TO RECEIVE UPDATES FROM BOOMERPDX.
No bonus, no gift, just an update on a thriving blog community.
Boomers are big on not wasting time since our days are numbered with death at our doorstep.
But why dwell on that? I don’t, but . . .
I’ve seen a commercial, maybe you too, that shows a group of older guys getting together and having a great time.
The smiles, the camaraderie, the friendship, is contagious.
One guy stands out for leading man energy, his follow my lead stance, and I have to ask: Would you want that guy around?
He looks like a hype man, acts the part, and it’s just enough to put me off whatever is being sold.
I like folks that lead by example.
If you’re living a good life I’ll know. So will anyone who meets you.
There’s a glow with people who got to the good life place with confidence and still retain their humility.
Call it the luck of the draw.
I met a sassy old man with a trash mouth who cussed a blue streak every time he opened his mouth.
He had it down like a favorite song. He was good. His trash talk had cadence and rhythm.
I asked his wife if he was like this all the time.
“Yes, and I think it’s because he’s never been sick a day in his life, which is remarkable. He looks down on everyone.”
The guy was seventy-five. I’m thinking of taking up swearing like a drunk sailor sooner than later, a profane hype man in the making.

Profane Hype For Beginners

I swear more in real time than on the page.
It doesn’t look good on the page and shows a limited vocabulary.
Isn’t it a little funny that the word for words is five syllables long?
Reading boomerpdx will make you more flexible, more versatile, and give you a better command of new ideas.
Comments on posts give you a pass to joining the ranks of the literate the same way as playing a song on a guitar gives entry to the music world, and lifting weights makes you part of the fitness movement.
So many parts of life are linked that it’s a surprise to find out.
Call it shocking.
It’s like learning how important the lymphatic system is to body.
I call writing on a regular schedule a way to clarify thoughts and ideas.
You write something down and think, ‘how could I sound so ignorant,’ then rewrite it for a better response.
Writers do this every time, or should.
Reading boomerpdx on a regular basis pushes the idea of community engagement.
You have my permission to quote me to friends and neighbors.

Everybody Needs A Hype Man? Be Your Own

Who’s a good blogger?
How about a treat and a nap?
Self hype and dog talk work together.
Instead of, “Who has a typo in the first sentence,” try, “Look, a new spelling style.”
Turn things around for better results.
For even better, be a careful reader.
I still get a kick out of misusing there, they’re, and their, and when I see it I think, ‘I’m not the only one.’
I don’t write to challenge readers like an English teacher, but to shed a ray of light now and then.
Now and then I succeed, and that’s all I’m looking for.

When you and your dog high five each other, it’s a sign.
It’s a bond, the sort of bond some people get with the creative process.
I feel it every day.
If you’ve got something missing in your otherwise full life, it could be doing something creative, something only you can do.
Your story is that missing part.
Instead of watching time pass, do something with it.
Make it stand still.
That’s what happens with writing every post on boomerpdx.
Then the clock starts running after hitting the publish button.
And there it goes.
