BEST WISHES SENT ONE POST AT A TIME

best wishes

Best wishes come when good things happen to others.

That’s what we do, send best wishes and love.

If we understand what happened and why, then what?

Send best wishes and love.

So I’m an expert on this? No, but I’m getting better at it.

Now about you? Need some practice?

Part of getting a post together on a regular schedule, like every day, means finding relevant topics.

It’s not that hard most of the time since I’m a history major with decades of history museum experience.

My major skill is looking at something and determining what it’s made of.

With all my hard work over the years I can tell wood from metal, hard wood from soft wood and, with the help of a small magnet, I can tell ferrous metals from non-ferrous.

It’s steel I saw this morning, and it’s rare steel.

The Singer And The Song

The Portland Timbers of Major League Soccer, MLS, start matches with the National Anthem.

Their singer came out in the red shirt in the top image and put a few folks on alert.

But this is no ordinary singer. Not by a long shot.

It may very well have been my last Anthem for #PTFC given my choice to wear this shirt, but I’m proud of myself. As a DV & SA survivor I felt the need to use my voice in a different way today. #BelieveWomen Photo by @KP_KaylaMarie #YouKnew

What the story behind #youknew?

The Timbers reportedly settled a lawsuit last week that was filed by Genessis Alarcon — the estranged wife of former Timbers midfielder Andy Polo — accusing the team of negligence regarding assault and battery allegations she made against Polo.

Anyone ambitious enough to sing in public, to sing on stage, or to sing in the middle of Portland in front of one of the best fan bases in sports, deserves accolades.

To do it well enough to be invited back over and over is a sign worthy of best wishes.

It’s a resume builder for a performance artist.

When it’s the resume of a woman of consequence doing her best work, it can’t have questionable content.

Going out to sing the National Anthem in a ‘You Knew’ shirt shows a woman of consequence doing her best work.

I’m proud to see someone show what it takes to make a difference for others.

Best Wishes For Those Standing Up

Too often we hear something or see something and let it go. Not this time.

Some things are bigger than the moment.

Then it gets personal, and that’s when things change.

Instead of going through the motions with what she knew, singing the song and getting the job done, she lit up the organization.

Why wear the shirt?

Because she didn’t want another woman with children to be ignored after her husbands abusive actions.

Will she change the shirt and carry on as usual?

No, she won’t. That’s the steel part. She didn’t bend or break.

And isn’t that a better resume builder? Isn’t that what you want to see in people, instead of taking the company line?

Last night the Grammy’s were giving out awards to people who may or may not have done the same thing as Madison Shanley in similar circumstances.

Last night my house band was down in the basement heating up. I believe the band knows how to take a stand.

There is no doubt about Ms Shanley.

  1. Terry Shanley says

Thank you David. It’s a challenging thing to do, to stand up for someone else but it is both noble and necessary. Thank you for shining a light on this important issue.

    • The challenge to stand up for someone else when it would be easier to ignore is one that shows the sort of character we hope to find in others. When we find it in our kids, it feels like they are the people we hoped they would be.

Madison Shanley met the challenge and showed how it’s done. All moms and dads should share that experience. That she made her statement singing the National Anthem to a roaring crowd is just the best sort of message.

Thanks for coming in here, Terry.
