A Best Man for a wedding has a big job.

It’s usually a variation on ‘Don’t screw up.’

If anyone is going to make a mistake, it has to be someone else.

But what makes a Best Man good?

It can be a relative or a friend, which means you know them well enough to trust their judgement.

And they need to be available.

A best man isn’t as important if you elope.

In the course of planning a wedding who hasn’t thought, ‘It would be a lot easier with a justice of the peace and a photographer as witness.’

The idea of getting married with wedding guests is to show hope in the world.

Everyone is the audience has feelings about marriage.

Now your feelings about marriage get added to the list.

If you’re getting married, you do have feelings about it, otherwise why bother?

Bruce Springsteen got married in one of his songs. It didn’t seem like a happy occasion:

Bruce knows all about getting married in Oregon to an Oregon girl, but he didn’t get it right.

He met his first wife in Los Angeles.

An Oregon girl in LA? How about an LA girl in Oregon?

If Bruce met an LA woman in Oregon he’d still be married to her.

But he found his long-term wife later, a Jersey girl, which sounds right for a Jersey guy like him.

Oregon girls are different. Whether they grew up here, or moved here, the place changes people.

Oregon girls want a man comfortable in the wild outdoors, who knows how to not get lost in the woods, and knows how to get out of the rain.

It sounds simple; it’s not. Just open your umbrella, ella, ella.

The Man Of The Hour at a wedding is the groom.

The best man keeps the momentum rolling.

They check the grooming. No missed spots from shaving. No tufts of hair sticking out.

Shoes shined? Gig line straight? Tie tied?

Rings at the ready.

I had best man duty at a small wedding where the bride’s dog was the ring bearer.

Wedding Advice: Don’t include pets in important roles.

Getting married and staying married are two different tracks.

The first is a fast track. You get things done on a time schedule.

Find a place for a memorable wedding.

Get all of the people lined up and committed.

Decide colors and theme.

Get everyone dressed.

Show up on time.

In between the broad plans are the tiniest of details.

At some point as the date grows nearer, as the finish line comes into view, everything falls into place.

It becomes a case of mind over matter.

The work is done, the guests counted, food ready, wedding official booked (hey Toby.)

After you’ve gone over and over and over the plans, but one tiny thing, no matter what it is, is missing?
